Just bring it on down...
This morning I woke up around 10. Rebecca called me around 10:15, and got here around 10:45, and then we were off to the boonies for some good DDR and mall fun. I got to see the "Mall at Robinson Towne Center" because Rebecca needed to make a pit stop to pick up a plushie of an alien from a comic I forget the name of ("Ride the pig!", if that helps). Then we went to the Beaver Valley Mall (for anyone who's not been paying attention, that's the place nearest here (45 minutes away) that has a DDR 4th Mix machine). We got there a little before noon, I guess.
We were the only ones there at first. I played a first set by myself of Byul Maniac, Face Trick, and Silent Hill Maniac. Then Rebecca and I played a set (damned if I remember what, but I think we also did Face. Or other Korean songs... I forget.) Around the end of our first or second set, Natalie from Ohio and Jeff from Michigan showed up. So there were four of us swapping off and on. A bit later, Juan showed up. He played alongsides this girl who we found out was ten years old (apparently the little sister of one of his friends). We were talking about Pokemon with her. It was kind of funny. There was also some guy with a lot of piercings who showed up with his family - I played a set with him due to the offsidesness of the coin line at the time. It was funny because I did Super Star Trick and AM-3P maniac in that set, and decided to do Brilliant 2U basic for my third and all the spins - afterwards he was like "how long you been playing? I wanna learn to freestyle but haven't memorized any of the steps yet..." (and of course I have no moves but can spin, so I felt silly) So for a while there were like three pairsish of us swapping off on the machine. Around 2:30, Chris (the guy who works at the arcade who is running the next tournament) and Angel (this guy from CMU who plays DDR) showed up. So I ran to get some lunch so Rebecca could pair up with Angel. In the meantime, Sam Pinansky showed up as well. A bit after that, Brad from the January tourney also showed up. So we basically had a ton of people playing... a real coin line and everything. It was exciting. I ended up playing in a pair with Sam after he showed up (it was good that he did - I wondered who I was going to go with after Angel got there...). That's always fun because he always wants to do all of the toughest songs in the game. I did manage to get him to do an entirely Korean Pop set as our last one though. In the meantime it's sort of fun because I can try really hard songs and heck, if we fail, it's all his fault. Heh.
The exciting highlights of the DDR day for me were: 1) I actually beat Rebecca in Perfects in one song. B4U trick. It's my best song. And only 197-193. Lame, huh? (I wouldn't usually make a big deal out of it, but I *never* beat her... and she's probably the person around here who I'm closest in playing skill to, so I compare myself to her to see whether I'm getting better). 2) I full-comboed My Summer Love Trick with a REALLY good Perfect ratio, which as some of you might remember, was the song that made me lose the January tourney. 3) I got to play lots and lots of Korean pop songs! Yay! oh and 4) we were doing para para moves to some of the songs in the background, that was fun too.
Because I had plans with Dave Rochberg and his Laura (she is in town this weekend and we wanted to get together), I had to leave around 5 or 5:30, and dragged Rebecca out with me (she was my ride home). (BTW - Rebecca, if you're reading this and want an LJ account, or anyone else who's mentioned LJ to me in passing recently, let me know and I'd be happy to give you a free account referral)
So the second half of the day involves dinner at Dave's house. We got to meet his new housemate, and talk to Laura, and eat yummy pasta and salad and spicy pumpkin pie, and play Boggle, and tell amusing stories ("Cancer will get you nowhere.") and we thought of watching Repo Man, but didn't. It was a pretty good evening.
