It's starting to feel more final

I sold my car back to Honda today.

I don't know why that hits me as such a final thing. It's not like I'm even that fond of driving, but it turns out I was inordinately fond of my car. It was my first car ever. Something just makes me feel all weird inside when I think about someone else driving MY CAR :(

(Oh yeah, and of course all of the little things I never got taken care of -- like the windshield chip, the passenger door not opening, the dent in the front right side -- added up to their offer being a little smaller than it might have been otherwise. But it was still for more than what I still owed on the thing, so I'm not entirely unhappy. Only complicated part is that they can't cut me a check until they get the title, by which point I should be in Japan so I need to figure out how to deal with that.)

As for the rest of the day -- I spent the early afternoon out at Microsoft -- finally taking up Jason on his offer for lunchtime Tichu which he made, oh, five months ago or more? After getting vaguely lost in the bldgs 40-41 lot, I was rescued and brought up to be Jason's partner, against Drew and Andy, who kicked our butts, but that's ok. While playing, I had some funny realizations about cardplayers and their abilities to read certain aspects of people (and utter inability to read other aspects of people).

Afterwards, I gave Drew a ride back to his building... via another cluster of buildings, where I first stopped by to see Mike and his super-Puzzlehunty office and give him a big box of Puzzlehunty things (sigh -- that's another super-sad thing for me), got to say hi to Ryan briefly, and then we headed to bpr's office, which was empty when we got there and I left stuff for him, but then he came back so I did get to say hi after all. Yay.

And by then it was already 2pm so even though there are a few other MS people I would have liked to see, I dropped off Drew and headed to Bell Square, where I exchanged my shoes yet AGAIN -- this time, the velcro-oldlady style shoes got ditched for the plain loafers. I did see a cuter pair of half-loafers called "Darcy", but they didn't have any in my size. Oh well. I also went to the Made In Washington store and picked up some coffee samplers to use as omiyage, as suggested by the2belo the other day. I hope that works. After that, I got stuck in traffic for a while, which sucked, and got home around 4pm, then went to sell my car (waaaaaaah), and rode the bus from the Honda dealer to the stadium.

Tonight was Stitch'n'Pitch night, which I'd said aaaaaages ago that I'd go to with Megan and Heidi and George and Beckie and Colleen and all, so I did. I was too late for batting practice, so instead I went around taking pictures of all of the yarn store booths. One lady actually asked if I was a reporter, and I was like "Err... no... I write Marinerds... it's a baseball blog..." and she was like "OH! We like blogs! Please take pictures of our stuff and put it on your blog!" It was sort of funny. The game itself was sort of sucky though, well, not from a fantasy baseball standpoint -- I have Nick Swisher on my team, and he hit two home runs. Of course, the Mariners lost the game, ending my huge winning streak, so bleh. Jose Lopez wore high socks though, which was pretty awesome.

I've put away a few more boxes of stuff tonight, and tomorrow's going to be ALL PACKING ALL DAY or something like that. The scary part is that I haven't actually started the "real" packing, ie, putting stuff into suitcases to take with me. I have no clue how much of my stuff is actually going to fit, to be honest...

Also, I guess I'm sort of thinking of having a non-goodbye non-party on Saturday night, if anyone wants to just come by and say hi while I'm in "ARGH I'M DOOMED" mode. I guess I should send out email but I feel sort of weird about it.

Saturday's a definite possibility. Also, [livejournal.com profile] samildanach and I are interested in the audio setup on craigslist. :)

I sent out that gaming session thing I mentioned, so a group of us will probably come and harrass you at some point in the evening. Of course, that will work better if any of us actually know your current address. :)

I'm still in LA until Monday, having successfully failed at qualifying for a new game show. When are you really truly honestly gone?

Crap... I won't be able to see you off. Have a good trip out -- I'll wait for your first posting from Japan!

I hear you on the car thing! =P

A car is transportation..

but as you drive it for a while, you leave an imprint on it. You loved its reliabiliy to start for you just getting you home on a crappy night. Then one day you hand the keys over to a dealer who will resell it to somebody else for point a to point b transportation. You'll BE in Japan.. you can always lease another Honda there. I speak of my previous cars as old friends. D'Lorean (A Chrysler Laser), Petra, Keanu, Maxene, Sonic and Family Truckster.

As for heading to Japan... I wish you luck, success and safety there.
