Carnival Sunday -- Catching up, pie, ToI, games, etc
I dunno why, I don't actually feel like typing out an entry, which is weird, because I want there to be an entry. Hmm. Maybe I'm just tired.
I got up sluggishly today as usual, and left the house around noon. The front door lock seemed not to work though, so I called Mark to find out how to lock it, and he asked if I could grab the chicken pot pie which was in the fridge and bring it to Squirrel Hill. So I did.
But I was stopping by PNC Park on the way there, ostensibly to get some Pirates gear for when they come to town in June... but what really happened is that the STORE WAS CLOSED ON SUNDAYS, so I went around with my camera and took some pictures, since I hadn't been here since getting the dSLR. However, there was no game, so I could only walk around the outside of the park and the outside of the outfield. Still, it's so beautiful, such a nice stadium. I have to go back tomorrow for the shopping part I guess.
Had fun remembering the optimal wormholes to get from PNC to Squill without taking the highway, since 376 still sucks. I actually sort of like driving around Pittsburgh when I'm not fearing for my life, honestly. Dropped off the pie, though Benoit and Emilie and Mark and Christina were still making like three other pies at the time. Crazy. I figured I'd be in the way, so I left.
It wasn't time for the pie party though and I was starving, so I got a side order or two from Boston Market, and headed to campus after that, where I met up with jweill and jweisz in the airport lounge. Jason had to go get his plane back to Seattle after a bit, and then I sat around talking to Justin for like an hour, which was really great, since I wanted to catch up with him more.
I went to
blk's pie party after that and saw a bazillion people and their kids and took pictures of stuff, and I tried some various pies which were pretty good. Caught up with Jarrett and talked a bit about D&D -- he'll be back in Seattle in like a month or so, yay.
We had the annual Sunday ToI run after that. There were only ten of us this time -- me,
skydiamonde,
csg87,
buoren, erick,
sheenaqotj,
demetria23,
rehana,
rupes, and rbraun. (Yes, our side of the table was the chicken tikka masala agglomerate.) Fortunately the ToI owner guy whose name I always forget was there, so he was really happy to see our group, and we were really happy to see him too. Also, amazingly, the restaurant was really full! At one point there was literally only one open table for 2, everything else had people at it. Crazy, but I'm glad they're doing such good business. I spent most of dinner talking to Jen about some common bridge acquaintances I actually knew, and about stuff like frisbee, for whatever reason.
After dinner some of us went back to Benoit and Charlie's place and played games -- well, more like, Charlie and Kevin and Jen and Adam played some weird bridge variant with one card you can't see but everyone else can. Erick and Benoit and Rehana and I played Seafarers of Catan (four-player Four Islands scenario. I had considered calling mlahut to see if he wanted to play anything, but I'm so bad at phones), which I would have done a lot better at if Erick hadn't been sitting to my left and winning the whole time and rolling 7's and/or using soldiers to attack me (and I'm not sure anyone else realized how well he was doing). Oh well, it was good to break in Benoit's set and it's been a bazillion years since I played Seafarers, seriously.
A couple hands of Set later we ended up watching Idiocracy because Kevin bought a copy. At this point, "we" was Charlie, Joanna, Kevin, and me... Benoit sort of stood there watching for half the movie and finally sat down, and Rafael came in about halfway through too. I think I was wrong, it was watchable a second time -- my thought was that it wouldn't be that funny another time around, but I think it was mostly funny because I was watching it with other people and got to see their reactions.
I gave Kevin a ride to some party he was dropping in on -- yes, at 1am -- and then came back here, where Mark actually happened to still be awake finishing up some quest in WoW, so I got to talk to him for a little while (I'd feel pretty stupid if I stayed at his house for like four days and we didn't talk at all, despite my inability to go to sleep early or wake up early, heh)
So, it is Monday now, in theory. I think my plan for Monday involves trying to get up at a reasonable hour, then stopping back at PNC Park, getting bagels from some Brueggers, and then coming to campus until 2:30 or 3pm, then driving to the airport with Adam, Rehana, and Sheena, who fly out sometime near when I do (my flight's at 4:53pm -- I have a three-hour layover at O'Hare airport from 5:30-8:30 supposedly, eek). It's funny though, I'm not even sure what I'll do on campus without there being a lounge or whatever these days, besides hopefully at least getting to wave hello to Mark Stehlik. Maybe I can track down some people for lunch or something. I dunno. I'd actually sort of like to get to the crepe place in Shadyside, or Spaghetti Warehouse or something. Hmmm.
Oh yeah, I get back to Seattle at 10:51pm. Hopefully Carl will remember that he is supposed to pick me up due to the Ride Karma of the galaxy swinging in my favor currently :)

Apologies for the off-topic reply
I suspect this is probably wrong even if the usage exists ... but I figured if anyone I knew would know the answer to this, it'd be you. Any ideas?
Actual on topic comment: I hope you had a fun Carnival and an uneventful flight back.
