Fuck Java, I'm eating cheesecake

There was a CMU alumni event today that I went to in Bellevue. It was ostensibly for brainstorming some ideas for a CMU Seattle Alumni chapter, but in reality, it was a bunch of people in a really loud bar that was not really geared towards talking at all. I couldn't hear anyone, and the tables were all too close together to walk around, etc. Plus, aside from Abe Wong, I didn't recognize anyone there that I don't already hang out with semi-regularly (I walked in with Drew and Jason, the other Jason showed up shortly after that, and Brian G showed up as well)... there were one or two people who'd graduated in the late 80's, and other than that it was all people from 2005-2006 for the most part.

I dunno, they brainstormed a few ideas for events and then mingled, but eh, also, there were like 90% microsoft people, 3 people from Amazon, and I'm not sure I caught anyone working anywhere else, honestly. Oh, maybe one or two at Boeing, yeah. My throat was really sore after about an hour of trying to talk over the noise, which sucked.

So around 5:30 I ditched to go get dinner with Brian, since we hadn't hung out since like LAST SUMMER, and had a lot to catch up on. Jason and Drew tagged along because Jason was getting bored. We all went to Cheesequake. Woohoo. Actually, it was pretty fun, in the way I miss CMU zephyr dinners, in that I learned a whole lot by osmosis, about databases and some other things. (No, I'm pretty sure they didn't tell me any SUPER SEKRIT Microsoft stuff.) People think they annoy me by "talking shop", but in reality, a lot of the time I like listening and learning. I'm more likely to ask my friends stupid questions than I am to ask people at work, anyway.

By the time dinner was over it was almost 8, so we just headed home. I had gotten a piece of caramel cheesecake to go, though. Yay :)

So I came home and worked on some stuff for the evening, and at midnight I quit and ate cheesecake. Woooohoooo.

Just re-watched episode 10 of Himitsu no Hanazono, this time with subtitles. Turns out I actually did pretty much understand almost everything that went on. Can't wait to see the last epsiode in two days.

Also uh, is anyone I know in Seattle going to Japan Night at Neumo's on Tuesday? I seriously regret not going to see Ellegarden last year, but yet again I don't know whether I care about seeing HY, 50 Kaitenz and Asakusa Jinta, even if [livejournal.com profile] proz says it's a good show. Other problem is of course being stuck at Neumo's until whatever ungodly hour, which doesn't appeal to me either. Eh, I guess I have time to think about it.
