Volleyball and other fun
So yeah, there's snow in Seattle again. WTF. I swear I saw snow once in my first four winters here, and now, twice in the last month?
It was actually worse downtown than in the northern neighborhoods of Seattle though. All the buses were delayed a ton, and in the end I ended up catching a 358 up to 46th and Aurora, then taking the 44 across to Ballard, getting home around 7:15pm. Then I called
dgr because I'd said I'd take him and
georgejas to volleyball tonight... except I wasn't sure if it was going on because of the weather. Also I wasn't confident my left ankle was going to hold up, though I didn't say that part.
Well, the gym said they weren't planning on closing -- the roads weren't too bad there -- so I ate some pasta and headed up towards the gym, picking up Chris and George on the way. Sure enough, there was volleyball. We even got up to having 6-on-5 at one point, though most of our best players weren't around.
I think Chris and George had a good time -- it was funny though because I mean, when we get new people at vball at the gym they don't tend to be all that good -- and since I'm a competent but not spectacular player I guess the vball people thought if I brought friends they'd also fit into that category. So Chris and George just blew them away by kicking ass and taking names. It was pretty awesome. After a while people were like "Hey Deanna, thanks for bringing those ringers... I mean your Carnegie Mellon friends!" But, I think that part of the purpose in me bringing C+G was to get contacts for them for other games going on -- I know that a few of our regulars also play sand doubles and at some other gyms, so I think at the very least they got info about the North Beach Sand Volleyball place, which is an indoor sand volleyball court here.
And actually, I had a good time. I don't usually show up early and leave late, but I did today... I was ABSOLUTELY EXHAUSTED by the time we left. Usually I duck out when something hurts, but amazingly, I guess because I was specifically not jumping much, my ankle held up spectacularly, and I even felt like I was playing pretty well. Whee. It was really good to get to play volleyball with Chris and George again, I think it'd been like four years since that last happened!
Though, I need a haircut, majorly.
And I got to see Sampson the puppy play the red-laser-pointer-dot game. He's like a cat, I swear.
Also, I was really proud of myself at work today -- yesterday Jack had come up with an idea for something for me to do to help progress my project -- only it had a slight bit of magic that needed to be worked out for it to work, and today I actually figured out the magic, all on my own. Very proud of myself -- especially for making sure I got that done BEFORE getting on a bus and fleeing downtown to go home :)
