Carson, Kiltie, Cookies, Cloud Kill, and Cool Crap
ok. So right after I posted the entry with kitten pictures, I was picked up by Roman, who had gotten Andrew from the Allegheny airport and Carl and we went to Carson street, where we met up with Kevin. Sushi Two closed JUST as we got there (3pm or so) and so we walked a few blocks and were like "Primanti's! Whee!" So we had lunch there, and I gave everyone some heart-shaped cookies.
(I came home after midnight and Eli said I smelled like O fries and I couldn't figure out why and then I remembered I ate at Primanti's but I am really surprised the smell is still on me)
After that we took Andrew back to the airport and saw the plane he flew in on. It was a cute little Cessna. That's kinda cool, that he pretty much rented a plane, flew here, had lunch with us, and got in a plane and drove home.
Went to Kiltie after that, although I stopped in the CS lounge for a few minutes on the way. I gave people more cookies. I talked to some of my friends, for whom I feel really bad that they didn't get into CMU for grad school. It sucks that so many totally cool and awesome and qualified applicants have been screwed over by the job market, so all of the people that would normally have gone into industry decided to apply to grad school, so it got more competitive this year, and people who would have easily gotten in two years ago had a tough time this year. I hope all of my friends find their way into good grad schools or research programs though...
I got some pictures back before Kiltie, too. They are of the Kiltie concert in December, of the DDR tourney in January, and other assorted things like my hair in braids. I'll scan them sometime. It was cool because I gave the doubles of some pictures to the others in the baritone section. Oh, and Ed Latimer had a great story about how apparently the Robotics Institute screwed up his application to grad school. He got email from Matt Mason saying "Don't check your mail. We screwed up your application," and then mail from Illah going "Congrats! You are accepted to the Robotics Masters program!" and then went and got his mail and had a "Sorry, you have not been accepted to the Robotics PhD program..." letter in it. Oops. So he was hyper all through rehearsal because he was accepted to RI. Whee. I told him if he'd behave for all of rehearsal I'd give him a cookie. (Of course, I had every intention of giving out more cookies at the end of rehearsal anyway.)
(Quote of the rehearsal: "Let's start at L." "Is that L as in Love, Mr. Gerlach?" "No, that's L as in Loser, like that Jerry Springer guy...")
After band we called Mike and got a ride over to Pod's for D&D. Tonight's session was exciting. We stormed the orc camp, freed some prisoners, and did some orc-bashing. Tal decided to pull punches a little and had the necromancer cast badass stuff like Magic Jar and take over half of us in the party at one point or another, and then a major strike; he Feebleminded Carl's character. Ouch. Fortunately, we survived the encounter, freed the prisoners, and the troops coming down from the north to help us also had no fatalities. Sadly, the fort we are trying to break the siege on lost their major priest and their war mage in the meantime, which is pretty bad. On the other hand, major reinforcements from Greyhawk arrived, in the form of a 16th-level mage and her adventuring buddies. This *may* make the battle a little more equal... (this "orc camp" has like 500 orcs in it...)
Roxanne told me lots of useful info about how unemployment works in PA, and Brook told me lots of useful info about the PA driving permit stuff. And Roxanne made a vegetarian dinner of egg rolls and quesadillas and mango pie, and I brought the rest of my cookies of course, and it was a good evening for munching.
Now I am home. I got a gift certificate to B&N from my dentist for recommending people to his office (which I would do regardless of his referral awards system because he is so cool!) and Valentine's cards from Eli's grandparents and stuff. Whee! And today (Friday) is Valentine's day! Eli is being wonderful wonderful and taking me out to dinner. It will be cool and I will wear that cleavage-enhanced dress.
