I'm losing track of time

I woke up kinda late (figures since I was up until 6am last night and all). Managed to convince the building people to give me my package. They've changed the rules about receiving packages here now, so rather than bringing them to your apartment, you have to pick them up, at some very specific times of the day. Grr. Well, it wasn't too bad. The package in question was a Hysteric Blue t-shirt (which is incidentally red). Hysteric Blue is one of my favorite Japanese Pop/Rock bands. I've realized that very few Japanese bands actually really make t-shirts, as far as I can tell. I mean, even when I was in Japan they were a pain in the ass to find.

Anyway, t-shirts aside, it's great because I still have my braids, so I thought it'd be way cool to wear my new red t-shirt with my red bandanna over my braids and red Converse shoes. So I did. It looked cool.

I went to campus around 4, so I'd be on time for KGB. I sat in the back of the room again, in front of Bayani and in back of Shawn. I went around the room being all zombie-like yelling "BRAAAAAAAIIIIIIDDDDDDSSSSSSSS...." except that only Laura and Alisa actually had braids, so I guess I chose a poor hunting ground. I may have repeated the joke a few too many times for my own good during the day. Oh well.

Kiltie was ok. We're working on both the Emperata Overture and Amparita Roca, and with my accent, the words "Emperata" and "Amparita" sound almost the same if I say them quickly, and I was discussing them with Carl after rehearsal, and it turned out we were talking at right angles about the pieces. Emperata sounds pretty cool and I can actually play the majority of it, so I like it. Amparita is just freakin' impossible. The baritone part (and apparently the bass clarinet as well) is entirely eighth notes through 90% of it, and while that's easy on a clarinet, it's really a pain in the neck on a baritone. Although I have a feeling once I study the music and get the pattern it won't be as bad.

After Kiltie, Carl and I got indian food and hung out in the cs lounge for most of the evening. I played ton of Lost Cities. That's about the whole of it. Finally saw Roman and paid him back for that NYC trip in December and all.

I tried on my dress from last year's Valentine's day (this one, honk if you like cleavage) because I wondered if I could wear it this year for our Valentine's day dinner. It fits, kinda, but I should not eat at all this week. I should start playing 3 hours a day of DDR or something while I'm unemployed, I think.

Then I went to sleep in the middle of writing this entry. Now it is "morning", or 1pm, as the case may be. I need to call my dad - I think I'm going to make plans to go to Philly next week. If some of you want me to come visit Seattle, you need to tell me when is good so I can order tickets for that as well...

Taking out braids is a royal pain in the butt. Whee.

I think that they're trying to pass me off as "nice" and "sweet". In real life, I highly approve of cleavage and the bodies usually attached to it. :D

Yeah, come visit Seattle!!

Most any time is good for us, other than the end of February, and of course April 28-May 15. Sarah and Timmy are probably coming for a visit at some point in March too.

second that. SEATTLE!
we have miscellaneous plans for the spring, but nothing specific.

Seattle

Hey, $368 to Seattle isn't bad. Granted, I just got in tonight from there, and it was $268 since they are an SCT preferred provider or something. But I checked online, and they were discounted from $303. But still, one woman at the conference spent $1700 to get there from Washington DC!

Be sure to eat at Dragonfish when you get there. It is really cool and has this Panchi machine things lining the wall. I wasn't sure what they did, but you would like them whatever they do.

Hey girl...

Quick loss of inches: drink A LOT of water, like 10 glasses a day.

You'll be going to the bathroom like crazy, but it can make you lose up to 4 lbs in water weight in a matter of days.

DC's economy is booming, btw. well, relatively.

water makes you nauseated? Well, i guess then it will just help you lose weight more quickly, eh?

just kidding. That totally sucks.

Now my rant - losing weight quickly, though any kind of radical diet, is just dumb. its bad for your body, bad for your mind, and not an effective long term solution. it sort of makes me want to lecture people. Deanna - you're beautiful as is, and will look great tomorrow, weight be dammed. If you seriously worry about such things, i urge you to do something a bit healthier for weight control.

I seem to remember Emperata from somewhere. Sadly, I don't remember where. Maybe it was one of those trial things in the Kiltie folder one year.

If it was high school, Tim will probably remember it. Maybe I'll remember once I hear it.

Emperata and Amparita Roca

Mike is right, and beat me to it in responding (hey, I was in Seattle until just a few hours ago). We played Emperata Overture in high school his senior year. Then the NEXT year (my senior year) the marching band did an arrangement of it as our opener. Unless that year was his senior year, but I don't think it was. And we played Amparita Roca his senior year as well in concert band, with a marimba solo (Dave Paroby) instead of a flute solo. Incidentally, my band just played that two concerts ago. But I think we discussed that already.

After Deanna hummed/sang a bit of Emperata, I remembered it and I remember liking it. I'm sure that I didn't play it in marching band. I don't really remember the other one although I vaguely remember some song with a marimba solo and I don't think I liked the song very much. It's hard to say though.
