Japan Day 14

I forgot to mention two things about yesterday, actually -- in the morning I went around to waste some time before Sam was showing up, and went to the arcade near the Ikebukuro station, and played some PNM, and they were changing their DM/GF machines to V3 at the time, which was interesting to pretend not to watch. I wish I'd figured out how to ask whether they still had the old stuff from the V2 games and if they'd give it to me, but I figured I'd just embarrass myself if I tried.

Also, in Chiba we went by an IKEA and parked near a Carrefour. That was pretty bizarre.

Okay, so today. Oren and Carl and I hung out. We got kaitensushi for lunch in Ueno, after walking Ameyokocho for a bit. Then we went to Asakusa, where we shopped and saw the big temple thingy (Sensoji, I think, with the Kaminari-mon gate) and its surrounding thingies, which seems to be what you do in Asakusa. Then we went to Nakano because I wanted to check out the stores in the mall. Unfortunately the poster store didn't have anything I wanted, which was sad, but the DVD/etc chain there had two movies I wanted -- Hana and Alice, and Linda Linda Linda -- the two movies I saw in the last two SIFFs. So, cool. They also had a Maison Ikkoku live-action movie from the late 80's, and if it wasn't $40 I might have considered getting it just out of dire curiosity.

We went to Meiji Jingu Stadium after that and saw a Swallows-BayStars game, which the BayStars won, but I got to see Kasuhisa Ishii pitch, and former Mariner Masao Kida... and Daisuke Miura pitched for the BayStars, and he's probably the best pitcher they have, so that was kind of cool, even though neither Miura nor Ishii figured into the decision.

It was pretty cold out though, so Oren left after the seventh inning or so. Carl and I stayed till the end, and then we went to the Bookoff in Mejiro on the way back, where he found some manga and I found a cheap copy of the PNM 8 soundtrack. Whee. I stopped in the ekimae sushi place because I was hungry, and then came here to the internet cafe.

Carl and Oren leave in the morning to go to Kanazawa and I'm here until Monday with a whole weekend to figure out what to do with. Hopefully I'll get to see Krispy, but other than that I really have no idea what I'll do besides baseball and some more last-minute running around places.
