Japan Day 10
I forgot to write an entry yesterday because I spent most of my time writing my baseball odyssey entry on Marinerds, and if you really want to read it, you can go there (along with what I just added about things I forgot). Suffice it to say, the way I spent Saturday was watching baseball. I got up in the morning, went to the Osaka Dome around noon, saw a Fighters-Buffaloes game, talked to a lot of interesting people in the stands, probably saw Shinjo play for my last time ever, then went to Koshien, saw a Tigers-BayStars game, nearly thought I was doing permanent damage to my legs trying to sit in the tiny 1924-built-stadium seats, tried to teach a little Japanese kid about keeping a scorecard, then nearly got crushed on the subway ride home, and when it was all done, got the best kaitensushi ever, where I spent about $8 for better sushi than I would eat for about $25 at Blue C. Goddamnit.
Today, we went to Nagoya, where Carl accidentally ended up getting dragged around with me and Jeff (
the2belo) and Jeff's wife Miyuki, as they intended to drive out to Seto-city and we'd take pictures of some cool old buildings or something -- except we get out there, and the only cool thing we see is a Pizza Hut delivery boy getting hit by a car while trying to inch across an intersection against a red light. Oops. The guy was okay, the scooter seemed okay, but it was really sort of scary to watch at first.
So instead, we ended up at the Aichi City Park or whatever, which had some World Expo last year, and as such has a monorail and a big ferris wheel and then just a ton of stuff for kids. Oh, it also had a lightning storm, but we fortunately avoided that by going into the Mos Burger for lunch at that point. Since in all my time in Japan I'd never actually eaten at a Mos Burger, I guess that makes up for not getting miso katsu or any other red-miso stuff in the Nagoya region this trip.
I just looked at Jeff's entry about today and he's pretty much right, we mostly talked about cameras and baseball, even listening to the Chunichi-Hiroshima game for a while on the radio while driving back from the park. I do feel sort of bad for Carl getting dragged all over though, as I think he would have been a lot happier had he managed to take the bus out to Inuyama Castle or whatever. Ah well.
Unfortunately it was sort of a day in general of bad timing and of me not feeling talkative, so we ended up back in Osaka around 8pm, and promptly went on an expedition to find the Book-Off in Tennoji so we'd see a new Book-Off and so I could get the next H2 manga to read on the train, as I am actually already over halfway done the one I bought like 3 days ago in Tsuruhashi. I guess it helps that I watched the dorama of this several months ago, so I know the story, and it's baseball, so I have the vocabulary, so reading it isn't that hard. We did find the Book-Off after circling the station, and then we came back and had more kaitensushi at the awesome awesome place.
Tomorrow, I head back up to Toyko for a week, which means entries will either become more coherent or just completely incoherent from now on, as I go back to once a day internet cafe for access.
