Tales from the unemployed zone

I did some stuff today.

I woke up around 11, but goofed off at home until 3pm. Which is to say I played some DDR, ate some meatloaf, and read "A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver", which is a historical fiction about Eleanor of Aquitaine by E.L.Konigsburg. Yes, I'm on a kick. At any rate, it was quite good. Very enjoyable stuff, and I learned a lot.

I finished my exit interview at WhizBang. I maybe will scan in the exit questionnaire I filled out. Cat laughed so hard she let me photocopy it for my own personal enjoyment. (Mostly I filled in random things like "...so what job are you accepting next? ___slacker___ what are the benefits of your new job? ___sleep later, play more video games, eat less free food____" and things.) I ended it with a long rant and a note saying "if you read this far, email me at dr4b@hotmail.com and let me know if you laughed, or if you want to punch me in the nose. I'll understand."

I went to Wean after that. Hung out in the lounge a little, and then went to the TG with [profile] combinator. It was celebrating the Chinese new year I think. There was weird Chinese snacks and stuff. They mostly sucked. I talked to some of my friends, but none of them have any good advice for me on the job hunt. Sigh.

After the TG I went to the UC and played volleyball. It was good to see a lot of my friends again. Incidentally, [personal profile] blk and [profile] mj2q's sons are getting HUGE! I took a few pictures of them since I haven't in a while. I also hung out with Ann and Jacob and showed them my WB exit thingy, which they thought was hilarious. Whee! Playing volleyball was pretty cool too. Even though I don't think I've played volleyball at all since, say, last April or May, it wasn't too bad! I can still bump and spike at least, although my setting has gone to shit and a lot of my reflexes have gotten slower. I think with practice I'd be up to speed again pretty quickly. So I should start going again. At the TG Owen mentioned that he was roped onto a GSA team that could really use another player of my level, so I should think about that.

After volleyball... oh yeah. I went to the O. I played Medieval Madness. I did REALLY well. I got like three replays in a row. [personal profile] jcreed even saw me get two of them. That was cool because usually I suck more if someone I know is watching, but maybe there is something magical about him that allowed me to not suck. I got food after pinballing, and went to the lounge. Martin asked if I'd bought a ticket to the 10pm movie. I hadn't, so I ran back to the UC and bought one and then came back to the lounge to eat. I played Lost Cities twice, against Jason and against Carl, and actually won. This is good, because I think I suck at Lost Cities. Carl taught me some strategy though. Whee.

Oh yeah, earlier I stopped by Phantom on the way to Wean, actually. I got a copy of OA for Carl and looked through some of their old D&D stuff to see if they might have a copy of Rary the Traitor... for... uh... let us say... research purposes. Yeah. Well, they didn't, so it's a moot point. The guy said he'd keep it in mind next time he went through their boxes of random old crap, but he was pretty sure he hadn't seen it in years.

Anyway, [profile] dvarin, [personal profile] jcreed, [profile] combinator, kaustuv and I went to see the 10pm showing of Shallow Hal. You know what? I hate the Farrellys. I really do. There's Something About Mary was the WORST MOVIE EVER. Their other stuff is just as inane and stupid. But you know what else? Except for one bit in this movie (Mauricio's "problem", for those in the know), I thought it was actually really good, and almost redeemed the Farrellys in my eyes. Almost. Basically, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black are way cool, and that's all there is to it.

I have such strange friends, but they are cool.

Now if only I wasn't worrying about things like "what happens if I have no job for the next N months?"
