More Carnival.
Today started off with Mobot. I ran into many people, including Jayen, dkitchin, Emilie, Rem, Bolson, Erick, Trey, Dracai, James, etc. I even ran into Ethan, who I hadn't seen in forever. Mobot was really quick, only lasting like 45 minutes. There was a cute "little dog" robot which really looked more like an insect, and made it to the first hill and then had no traction and fell over. "See Dog Run! Run, Dog, Run!" cheered the crowd.
We gave up and took a huge group of people over to the trucks on Margaret Morrison street to grab lunch. I got the worst pad thai I've ever had in my life -- it looked more like shredded cheddar cheese. We took our huge group to the UC and sat down in the O space and took up two tables and had a bazillion people and some people played cards and some people just hung out and talked. I talked to Trey and Benoit and James for a while, and eventually people started to disperse.
I ran into all sorts of people today, like Deryck again, and
maia_maus and her husband, and other people in the UC were
kerya and
kahare and Joey and Raskob and
mg4h and even Adam Phelps, were all at the table, and Erick Stuckey was there a bit again. Oh, and I briefly saw
jacquez and her sister over by the trucks, even. There were also more people I saw at Mobot, and I'm just utterly blanking now, because I'm tired.
Benoit and I walked to Flagstaff for a while and sat around talking and envying the people playing catch with baseballs or frisbees. Also, there was a cute puppy. It didn't rain, either.
Eventually I met up with
bk3c, and then a bit later Carl, and we all went to see City of Angels, the Scotch'n'Soda show. I saw Larry Greenfield and
kfcrawford on the way in. I saw
sackofbob being an orchestra conductor! He was very good. On the other hand, a lot of the singing and the audio was not very good; we often couldn't hear the singers over the jazz band, and sometimes when we could, we wished we didn't. During intermission I met
sylke, which was very cool -- I'm always amazed when people come up to me like "Are you Deanna?" but I really do love getting to put names to faces. So Carson theatergeeked with us during the intermission, which was cool. We stayed for the second act after all, and it was actually better than the first act. Woo. Unfortunately the show was like THREE HOURS LONG plus change, though.
Carl went home to bake cookies and Ben and I went to the waterfront Bravo restaurant to meet up with
jd7a,
donutjay, their daughter Ariana,
jgs, and my big brother in APhiO Debbie, who I hadn't seen in forever. Unfortunately, I really wanted Italian food, and Bravo is NOT Italian food, which Ben did apologize to me for. I had pork chops. They were quite good. It wasn't Italian food. I took a billion cute pictures of Ariana though.
Ben gave me a ride to Benoit's place afterwards, where I watched him and Rem,
klari,
chamois,
soong,
mj2q play Puerto Rico and just chilled out. I don't even really remember who won. Rem and I geeked about fantasy baseball a bit, and then Mark gave us all rides home. I did wonder where the Charlie-tachi were, but they weren't around and we all left at 1am. Arrr.
Carl and I watched another Gokusen and have been goofing off. But it's LAAAAAATE so I really should sleep since I think Benoit is calling me in the morning.

If Deanna hadn't made PGSS '97 so much fun, I probably wouldn't have ended up on the CS 212 course staff, and therefore probably wouldn't have been telling Carson about Deanna for half a decade...
Nice one, guys.

Of the 4 of us, I may have the honor of having 'met' Carson first, though (sometime 94/95-ish?). Ha!

and yeah -- now having met Carson it makes total sense that you would have told her about me and me about her.
