More Pittsburghness

Today, I woke up in the morning around 10ish, and tried to do real work for a few hours, with a stop at Boston Market (we don't seem to have those in Seattle) for lunch (wherein I ran into Tim Shirley and two other guys I knew from around my year in SCS, though I forgot the others' names and felt really guilty), and then more work, after finally getting in touch with Jack to get some code fixes. Unfortunately Carl's apartment gets a lot of sun in it and the code I was working on made my head hurt and I just fell asleep for half an hour around 3:30. Oops. I have a feeling my work habits for this week will basically be "as much as I can concentrate on, but I'm not going to kill myself to put in a full workweek and I'll take vacation time for the remainder".

I called [profile] genericman in the morning also to see if he'd want to hang out for a Pirates game since I wasn't sure I'd get to see him later in the week otherwise. So a little after 5pm I walked down to campus to get change for the buses and also to just see if I knew anyone who was around. I did stop in and see Mark Stehlik for a few minutes but he was super-busy so I didn't stay around much. I looked on the 8th floor and noticed that Kevin Watkins no longer shares an office with Benoit, and on the 4th floor he's no longer on the faceboard. Weeeeeeird. Did he graduate? I also stopped in the UC a bit and heard some Kiltie Band practicing going on, though I'll see the concert Thursday so it's no big deal.

Then I bussed downtown (though I called Charlie and Nick while bussing) and walked to PNC, and met up with Jason. We got tickets, and ran into a former coworker of his, and I watched some of the Cardinals doing warmups and tried to take pictures. Rolen and Taguchi were actually signing stuff for a little while but I didn't want to push my way up to the front. Then there was a game. It was closer than I thought it would be, and the Cardinals were leading 2-1 in the 9th -- I joked they would now score 9 runs to make it 11-1, but they didn't. Unfortunately, neither did the Pirates, and that's where the game ended. I really like Marquis though, so I don't mind seeing him win, though what I wanted to see was him getting a hit or two, and he didn't.

Jason and I walked halfway across town after that to his car, and then he gave me a ride back here and we sat and talked for a bit. It was good to catch up and to get to baseball geek with him at a game and all.

Then I came back here and Carl and I hung out for an hour or two, and played some phone tag with people, and we watched the first episode of Gokusen 2 (after watching the third episode yesterday; we need to catch him up). It makes me all happy an' stuff to watch dorama with him. Hell, it makes me all happy an' stuff to see people.

We used to have Boston Market in Seattle, but they shut down all their branches in the area, for some reason. I was very annoyed.

I think Kevin Watkins is on the job market this year (so likely graduating soon); I don't know how it's going for him though.

We're in roughly the same boat so I'd be surprised if his job search is going much better than mine, but it can hardly be going worse...
