Peripheral vision, yo

I have lately been in the trend again where I see an LJ post and want to just reply to say "Yeah." except, I think doing so is dumb, and I don't want to waste words, so I don't reply. Then I wonder if the person knows I still read them, because I never reply. Etc. And I'm making a public entry today. Whoa.

This morning when riding the bus to work a guy got on the bus wearing no shirt. It was this white-trash-looking guy in his 40sish, with a beer belly, at a bus stop with a lot of other people -- and the bus driver said, "You can't ride the bus like that, go home and put on some clothes." The guy gave the bus driver the middle finger and said "I can do whatever I want, call the fucking cops," so the bus driver did call the cops. Keep in mind the bus was already running 5-10 minutes late at this point -- anyway, we sat there while the driver talked on his phone, "Yeah, I'm driving a 5 bus, heading south on Greenwood at 75th..." after about 2-3 minutes the shirtless guy finally said "Ah fuck it, I'll get off the bus, GEEZ." and got off.

I just don't get people like that. A few weeks ago there was this incredibly smelly guy who got on the bus and after about half a mile the bus driver said "I'm really sorry, sir, but you can't ride this bus like that. Here's a transfer, please catch the next one." Amazingly, the guy just left the bus. I guess he knew he was pretty rank.

Um, anyway, so at work today they were playing that Train song "Calling All Angels" at the salad bar when I was there for lunch and all I could think about was being down at Angels Stadium two years ago. That was a fun trip. But that song has TOTALLY been ruined for me -- it puts visions of Darin Erstad and David Eckstein in my head.

Zach came over in the evening and we went to the Thai restaurant down the block from me where I had some very tasty noodles, only they made my stomach hurt later, which would have been okay if I didn't head to volleyball an hour after that. Volleyball was a lot of fun, we didn't have many people, but they were all people I like, and I played really well.

Oh, and the reason Zach came over tonight is that we signed a lease on the house in Ballard. We're going to be housemates again just like in college! So, sometime in mid-May I'll be moving from my little apartment in Greenwood into a huge house in Ballard with Zach and his two dogs Sherlock and Watson.

But right now I look at all my junk and think, "Gah, how the hell am I going to pack all of this crap?" I will probably be trying to ditch some books and videogames in late April, so stay tuned -- notably I'll probably want to ditch one or more of my PS1's, lots of NES cartridges, some of my D&D books, and maybe even some VHS tapes. I'll make a list when I get my act together, although I guess in theory if I was smart I'd do so before going to Pittsburgh so I could bring stuff for people. Oh well. Right now I need to do my taxes, though. So, whee.

I was going to respond here with simply a "Yeah", but then you mentioned NES cartridges. So:

Yeah!

and...

Ahh, NES cartridges. I was about to say that I would gladly take them off your hands, but then I just realized that I already have too many and don't want any more hardware (unless it's Contra). I hate accumulating large amounts of stuff, but it seems there's no other way to go about things unless you just don't want to have fun.

Ooooo depending on what's in your collection I might be interested in some of your games!

Forgot to mention that we're going to Carnival too. Feel free to contact me if you like (though you may have a packed schedule).

What types of D&D books were you thinking of?

Also, you ever been to Abington Hobby and Games? Right below the mall on Easton Rd. Really cool store!

Yeah.

I managed to unload my old consoles only by giving them to people who packrat even more than I do.

Feel free to dispose of those the same way I did if you want!

Whether or not he knew he was rank, he was probably embarassed and just wanted to leave. I know someone who has no sense of smell. It's not common, but it's not horribly uncommon either. It can be very difficult for such people to know when there are issues, and they just have to trust other people's judgements. It's actually a more problematic loss than most people realize, because it affects the ability to enjoy food and the ability to tell when food is good, so you're at higher risk of getting ill from bad food. It also can prevent you from catching other signs of danger.

And, it's one of the more common things to happen to you when you suffer brain trauma. Wear your seatbelts and bike helmets kids! And not-so-kids!
