Another sunny day

Today I overslept, sort of... but did get up in time to have softball practice for a bit. We had 7 people and just went and played catch for a while, and we did do a little bit of batting and fielding, but the field was muddy and we didn't really have enough people. I do enjoy playing though and I feel confident about everything except my throwing strength. Hitting with a wooden bat sucks though; I need to go buy an aluminum one.

It was a really beautiful afternoon though. As I was catching high pop-fly throws, I'd look up in the sky and see the gorgeous blue sky, and the fluffy white clouds, as the softball came down towards my glove, and think that it looked an awful lot like a scene from a movie.

After that I wasted the afternoon playing PP for an hour and watching another episode of Nobuta wo Produce, which is quickly becoming one of the best TV shows I've ever seen, period.

Josh and Megan picked me up a little after 6pm and we went to dinner at Ototo Sushi with Ficus. It was really good. I wish I could go there more often.

After that, on to the Paramount for the Belle and Sebastian concert. It's a good thing I've been listening to "The Life Pursuit" in the car for the last week or two, because they pretty much played the whole album. They played a whole lot of older stuff too, some of which I knew by name, some of which I just knew I'd heard at Megan and Josh's house before. There was a girl who won a "film contest" or something named Holly who got up and sang a song with them, and then they also called up a girl from the audience who had supposedly not won the contest and was pissed off, and she danced with them during the song Jonathan David. Another fun moment was when they had the opening band, the New Pornographers, come out on stage with them... and both bands together (which was like 15 people!) sang "No Matter What" by Badfinger, which was really, really cool.

Unfortunately, the show was marred by two things: 1) we ended up sitting waaaaay far back and high, which made it hard to really see what was going on on stage, which takes away the fun of seeing a band which plays such a wide variety of instruments, but I can't really blame anyone for that, we did get Balcony GA and get there late and 2) because of said seating, the stage lights were always aimed RIGHT IN OUR FACE, so pretty much from the moment they turned on bright yellow lights during "Another Sunny Day" and I had to close my eyes for half the song, to the ending part where they had a huge strobe effect which just plain sucked.

But aside from that it was pretty cool. It was the last show of their US tour, so lots of energy. Whee.

After the concert, we went to Palace for drinks and dessert, which was pretty good. Ficus seems to know all of the good late-night places in town, except Ficus is also moving away in a few weeks apparently, which I didn't know until today, heh.

Also, coming back from the concert we had parked in the convention center, and so we kept walking by Sakuracon dorks, most of whom were extremely annoyingly anime-con-like and Josh and Ficus spent a ton of time making fun of them. However -- and this is a HUGE however -- while going to the parking lot I saw a guy dressed up as Kunimi Hiro from H2, which is an awesome awesome baseball dorama (based on a manga by Mitsuru Adachi, the guy who also wrote Touch) which I absolutely loved. Kunimi is the main character, the star pitcher for Senkawa High School, played by Yamada Takayuki, an actor I also adore. I never in my wildest dreams imagined someone would dress up as Kunimi-kun, and the uniform was also absolutely dead perfect, so whoever that guy was, he made my day. I wonder if anyone actually got a picture of him that actually knew what the costume was beyond just "random baseball player". Hmm.

I'm still thinking I'll go to Neumo's Sunday night for the Japanese band fest if anyone wants to go... I wonder how dorky it'd be if I went alone and brought a book. Hmm.
