I am dork. Hear me roar.

I guess my quadriceps stopped being sore just in time. I went to volleyball tonight and had a pretty good time, though I couldn't serve at all for the first two games.

I can't think of much else to say. I think I'm entirely skipping Sakuracon this year. Yeah, I'm a big Japan nerd, but I'm not actually into anime or any of the stuff that gets covered at these cons, plus I have a short fuse when dealing with large groups of squealing teenagers dressed up as Final Fantasy characters. I must admit I'm thinking of at least walking a few blocks up 3rd street after work on Friday just to see if there are costumers wandering around downtown... though I also want to get home in time to see the first pitch of the Hawks-Marines opening day baseball game (conveniently, afternoon Saturday in Fukuoka is evening Friday in Seattle), so who knows. I have stuff to do for most of the weekend in theory, anyway.

Though, speaking of Japan stuff -- this Sunday Night at Neumo's is Japan band night, with some of the bands that played at SXSW (Tsushimamire, The Rodeo Carburettor, The Emeralds, Stance Punks, Pe'z, and Ellegarden). I'm not really familiar with any of them, and I don't know if I'd go to it alone, so is anyone else is interested in going? It could be fun, and it's only like $10. I've been to a few of the other times that we've had random Japanese bands come through town and it's always been interesting if nothing else. (I will never forget when The Pillows played here last year and the lead singer was like "Do you know what they call Ichiro's father in Japan? CHICHIRO!" I still giggle over that when I think about it.)

I guess if anyone wants to go, let me know or something. (I'd usually bug Chris/Jeff/Wooko/etc but I'm guessing they'll be dead from con stuff by Sunday night.)

Oh, fuck it, the rest of this post will be about Japan stuff. I'm also making an order to amazon.co.jp in a day or two, if anyone in town (Oren?) particularly wants to order anything and consolidate shipping. I'm just getting a few DVDs and CDs and Pop'n'Music 12, though, nothing that's really bulky to ship.

Also, tonight I watched episode 6 of Brother Beat unsubtitled and I understood pretty much every single part of it perfectly. My theory is that my problem understanding 君といた未来のために is not that I suck at Japanese, but more that the show is really complex and there's a lot more exposition in the dialogue and voiceovers that I'm losing, whereas in Brother Beat, there's a lot more action to provide context for what's being said, and it's more the fluff vocabulary that I actually know.

(EDIT: And of course, the morning after I watch it unsubbed, the fansub group that's been dormant for two months decides to release episode 6. Bastards! I don't need you!)

Oh, and I really need to get a screencap of it, but I was scanning through Ikebukuro West Gate Park to verify it, and I caught a scene where the street gang is hanging out and Waki Tomohiro is WEARING A JEROME BETTIS JERSEY. (He's the big kid who played Kuma in Gokusen; IWGP actually aired a few years before that, in 2000.) Hee. Kuma the Steelers fan... 熊のバス!

Chichiro? That's gold.

Oh, and I would love it if you would cap that last bit and post it.

I would heavily suggest in going to Japan Night but it'll depend on what they do on stage. When I saw them in S.A., Pe'z, Stance Punks & Emeralds were extremely high energy and in everyone's faces. It was one of the best shows I had seen in my life. They didn't have any restrictions so they went ballistic on stage. However, a person who went to the Austin show said the set was tame but it was probably because they were told to keep it down since they were playing for record execs in the crowd.

If anything, go see Tsushimamire who are actually about the same age as you and see Stance Punks to see them perform a song from BR II.

though I also want to get home in time to see the first pitch of the Hawks-Marines opening day baseball game

They just reported that Kawasaki (who twisted his leg sliding home during the WBC final and reaching through the Cuban catcher to *cough*sortof*cough* touch home plate) is sitting out the opener to make sure he doesn't aggravate the twist. Matsuzaka is also iffy for his first start all of a sudden. The price of world domination...

I didn't see a listing on Y!J Sports as of yet. But I will be listening to the game, as all of us here at my house are all Lotte freaks now. (We're mainly Central League people, maybe, but at least with the Pacific League we can all come to sort of consensus in Lotte. The rest of the time it's usually GIANTS RULE!!! NO, GIANTS BITE ASS!!! NO, GIANTS RULE, DAMMIT!!! NO.....

I actually stopped in to the SXSW show a couple times as I was walking by and, from the totally uninitiated perspective, it wasn't too bad. Of course, I was on my way to Lyle Lovett / The Pretenders, so I didn't stay all that long :)

Yeah, I saw that article too -- totally reminded me of old times.
