Doramas, baseball, and other stuff that is mostly only interesting to me

I just finished watching the Densha Otoko special finale, "Densha Otoko vs. Guitar Otoko", which I wasn't aware of until a day ago or so. It was pretty awesome! A lot of it was like a summary/recap of the main show, and they showed a bunch of events from it -- but it was more like the story of Ushijima the Hanshin Oendan Guy and of Matsunaga and Kawamoto The Otaku Dorks. Things work out really happily for everyone, and you get to see more of the charming dorkitude that is everybody from A-channel, plus I finally spotted Yamada Takayuki's cameo -- he was the suave salaryman who actually helps get rid of the drunk guy in the first episode. (He played Densha Otoko in the movie version, which I haven't seen, and which I still can't believe -- he's just too good-looking for the part. A wig and glasses do not an otaku make.)

Earlier I watched the episode of Bakuten where HG messed with the cast of Hana Yori Dango. Holy crap was that disturbing, although I thought it was pretty funny how he kept insisting on calling it Hana Yori Danshi, to which Matsujun would just roll his eyes like "Dango."

Japan lost 2-1 to Korea in the WBC game today, which means they're most likely eliminated. I think I'm going to cry. I watched a little bit of it when the score was still tied 0-0 in the 5th inning, and Watanabe looked perfect. I suppose in theory the US could lose tomorrow, and I think that even if they lose 1-0, they'll still lose the RA tiebreaker. But they would have to lose. To Mexico. With Roger Clemens on the mound for the USA. It's just not going to happen. Damn yoooooooou, stupid umpires in the Japan-US game screwing over Nishioka with a retarded call!

In other baseball news, the Mariners 2006 commercials are up on their site, and there's a pretty freaking hilarious one of Richie Sexson where they essentially wrote a country filk music song about him called "Big Richie". I'm mostly non-plussed by the rest, though they're cute in their own way.

And my dad called me this afternoon to let me know he went to Barnes&Noble in Philly and he got me a copy of Mike Schmidt's new book and got it signed!!! Whee! I am very proud of my dad for schlepping across downtown, even if he said he pretty much just sat at the bookstore doing sudoku puzzles for two hours while waiting in line.

I played volleyball tonight. I worked on my new re-tooled swing. I still served underhand to reduce stress on my shoulder, but every time I was set to spike, if I had a second to think about it, rather than just doing the same swing I've been doing forever with my upper arm horizontal and swinging from the shoulder, I'd extend my arm up and just swing from the elbow and wrist. It worked really well about 2/3 of the time. But, I realized another huge advantage to the new swing, if I can get it to be reflex -- by swinging with my arm up above my body rather than out to the side a bit, I effectively hit the ball from about a foot higher than before, which means I am effectively a foot taller, and thus have to jump less, which means less strain on my right knee and foot, which is AWESOME!

Umm, I've been too lazy to get my Vegas pictures off my camera yet because I suck. Maybe tomorrow or Friday, we'll see.
