How I know I'm becoming senile

This is happening way too often to me lately, where I have these reverse-Laura days.

So this is bizarre.

What happens is that at Time A, I really have to pee. And then sometime later, at Time B, I don't have to pee anymore. But at Time B, I honestly can't remember if I actually went to the bathroom, or if magically I just don't have to pee anymore, or something.

This is really beginning to confuse the heck out of me sometimes. Especially like, during that DDR tournament this weekend, since I was drinking so much water to keep my throat from hurting and to help me stop coughing, I swear I kept having to pee. Infact, I ran out to pee before the Trick competition started. Then I also went to pee after the first round of the Trick competition. I think I might have gone after the round was over as well, I honestly can't remember. The funny thing is, I remember standing there in the arcade thinking "I have to pee. Wait, didn't I just go pee? What's up with that? Did I maybe go to the bathroom and just sit there and not pee? WTF?"

This afternoon I had to pee, but we were going to campus to grab lunch, so I didn't think about it. Then I drank a Diet Coke with lunch, and sat at my computer doing stuff for a while. Then we had a meeting at 2, and I had to pee, but I also had to get to the meeting, so I am pretty sure I just went to the meeting. But after the meeting I didn't have to pee any more. Now I'm drinking some more Diet Coke (caffeine-free this time, I'm being good) and I just realized I had to pee, so I peed. But man, am I confused.

Yeah, so, two things.

1) I frequently find myself forgetting things that are habitual, or that can be done without conscious effort.

For example, i take a pill every morning, without fail. However, i can never remember whether or no i've taken it, so i always check in the evenings to make sure its gone.

Now, granted, no one in their right mind would want to have my memory, but... this seems to be a different mechanism than just forgetfullness. More like, lack of attention.

2) That said, if you find yourself having to pee frequently, (especially if sometimes there is not much urine to go with the feeling), it could be a symptom of something wrong. I know this is associated with urinary tract infections, (usually other symptoms as well, like a burning while urinating). Since the feeling is not necessarily caused by a full bladder, it can come and go.

I only mention this because of your recent spate of un-diagnosed, annoying, stomach weirdness. If this is more than a weird day, i'd mention it next time your on a roll trying to figure out if something is wrong with you.

(Of course, thats coming from someone who is, more and more, something of a hypochondriac!)

Then again, if you are peeing frequently, with a decent amount of urine, it could also just be a sign that you are well hydrated and just have a small bladder. :)

Oh, sure, Barbara. Go and be logical and non-paranoid and reasonable.

You could carry some sort of object with two states (call them A and B), say a pen where you can click it in and out. When you have to go to the bathroom, ensure that it is in state B. when you go to use the bathroom, return it to state A. Then at any point you can figure out if you suddenly stopped having to go to the bathroom by comparing your internal "having to go to the bathroom state" with the state of the pen.

People may look at you funny for clicking a pen randomly, and then clicking it again whenever you go to the bathroom, but don't pay them any attention. You might want to try this, to at least figure out what is happening.

Heh. Usually, if I can't remember if I've peed or not, I can go again. :) Small bladders suck. I think I will wear Depends if I ever get pregnant. "My thimble runneth over." :)

Ugh. Eek. Yeah, that sucks. Especially since you're supposed to drink MORE water. Itttttty bitty little bladder space. I valued my office very highly during that time (with all of a 10 foot walk to the ladies restroom).
