There is no joy in Melville - mighty Ahab has struck out.
George and Chris are in town for the weekend, and I have been fortunate to get to hang out with them a decent amount yesterday and today. They kidnapped me from work for an excursion to Soup Daddy (and I noticed the "east coast sandwich shop" that Jason was telling me about -- Oren, we should go there sometime), and then in the evening there was a larger excursion of people to Elliott's, which involved a lot of oysters for everyone else, and some damn tasty fish and whatnot. Also, I stopped by Pirate's Plunder and holy shit there's a ton of stuff there I'd buy if I was feeling particularly rich.
Today, we hung out for dinner in the evening after they got back from hiking, and we all ended up watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and everyone drank a lot, except me.
In the afternoon today I went downtown and hung out with Ryan for a few hours. We went to Elliott Bay and geeked out about baseball. He has better stories than I do, so it was fun. I got a few books, notably a super-awesome "Annotated Casey At The Bat", which is hilarious, including parodies of the original poem including "Ahab at the Helm" by Ray Bradbury.
My apartment is horrendously messy and I'm really uninspired to bother cleaning it. Bleh.

Put a big long movie
"I wash'd m' face and 'ands before I come, I did.."
Sometimes its the weather, and sometimes is just being too blasted busy to concentrate on one thing because everything needs your attention now. Talk to my kitchen and living room. I'll clean it good when school is out for break right before thanksgving.. :) Starting with obvious garbage is a good beginning. then seperating CD's, books, clothes.. into clusters.. taking the long arm and scooping everything off of your dining table.. Dishes.. I seperate groups of silverware, stack the plates, and bowls even if dirty so I have more room in the sink for soaking or fill the washer.. and do them as I can. In emergency situation (when I didnt have a dishwasher).. well.. I took everything to the bathtub. Soap them in tub and rince them in kitchen sink and stack or dry etc..
And parents.. the great motivator for housecleaning.. One of my friends cleaned his apartment after a power outage and the tv was shot.. :)
Now if Spare, Copious, Free Time.. was available to be purchased in 1 hour or 3 hour packets.. yea..

Of course, knowing that a given chore is Not That Bad doesn't much help me do it. I usually have to wait for some trigger (guests, tax prep, structural failure, &c.) to come along and force me.
Hey, that's it! Next time the house deteriorates to the point of condemnation, I'll just invite everyone over for a party!
Oh, and Bradbury kicks ass.
