Back in college, my friends and I used to always ask for soda with crazy syrups in it when we went to Eat'n'Park, to mess with the waitstaff. (And we went to Eat'n'Park *way* too much.) A lot of people would ask for vanilla in their Coke, but I'd always prefer strawberry syrup in Sprite.
So I just have to find a similar crappy hangout in Seattle, I guess. I sort of miss smiley cookies anyway.
I was gonna suggest carrying a bottle of vanilla in your bag. =) I can not think of an eatNpark like place in Seattle, can you? Needs to be one around 85th and greenwood.......
too bad that aurora diner (the green building with the funky roof) isn't too good.
Now everyone knows how I felt when they took away Crystal Pepsi in 1993. I made a movie for English class in which Crystal Pepsi had a focal point in the plot... only to have someone take that nectar of the gods off the market. Grrr.
Incidentally, 1993 was also the year I met dr4b for the first time.
The Philly RHPS group used to yell "You WILL like Crystal Pepsi! You WILL like Crystal Pepsi!" when Rocky's getting threatened with the candleabra. That's honestly my best memory of the drink.
Ewww, I was in high school in 1993. Yucko. Although I think that's the year I taught myself pascal, and possibly when we discovered Tropicana (or rather, when it discovered our town).
I was in highschool too, but I spent the 1993 summer at Governor's School, and that turned my life around (and caused me to end up in CMU CS). Also, the Phillies got to the World Series, only to be beaten by Toronto. BLAME CANADA!
Oh, I've been to Klavon's once or twice back in the day. That's the place that has a marking about a foot below the ceiling saying "This is where we got flooded up to in 1919" or something, right?
I meant more like, "hopefully we'll get a chance to hang out while I'm around," though. I promise not to diss the Yankees too much. Really.
Can't say that I'll miss Vanilla Coke -- at least in the diet version, the Vanilla seemed to overwhelm the Coke flavor. The article says Diet Coke w/Lemon is also going away... I think that got supplanted by Diet Coke w/Lime, for some reason.
And for those who laugh at Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper, the article mentions Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke is coming. Heh.
I find myself wondering (1) if cherry and vanilla are already part of "cola" flavor, and they're just increasing the proportions; and (2) if so, if we'll eventually just wind up with "double cola" - same mix, just twice as much syrup per volume.
Vanilla Coke is fantastic only if you don't drink it on its own. Vanilla Coke and Pizza is wonderful, but I can't drink just a bottle of Vanilla Coke without something to go with it.

Yup, I concede, it's all Canada's fault.

<snob>You haven't had a Vanilla Coke until you've had a real one at a coffee shop or ice cream shop / soda fountain.</snob>

(Nah, because soda companies are stingy.)
And lime was trendier than lemon, so it won.
