Nooooo! Not my vanilla coke!

[personal profile] omg_its_rob just ruined my day:

Coke is phasing out Vanilla Coke in the US :(

This is almost like when I couldn't find any birch beer anywhere in Philadelphia, but on a much larger scale. Goddamnit.

Now you've ruined my day, too. :o(

[identity profile] skie.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i have that effect on people :(

[identity profile] proz.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Bummer. Cuz Vanilla Coke & Rum/Whiskey is a great combination. :p

[identity profile] captain-squid.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think somebody needs a little eyedropper medicine vial full of vanilla extract. Put it on your nondenominational winter solstice holiday list!

[identity profile] zannah.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I used to date a guy who constantly asked for vanilla in his Coke when we went to Denny's/Shari's/etc.

[identity profile] mh75.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was gonna suggest carrying a bottle of vanilla in your bag. =)
I can not think of an eatNpark like place in Seattle, can you? Needs to be one around 85th and greenwood.......

too bad that aurora diner (the green building with the funky roof) isn't too good.

[identity profile] jacquilynne.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Vanilla coke was revolting anyway.

I'm enjoying Coke Zero, though, so yay for that.

[identity profile] proz.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
.. tastes like flat coke yet I can't stop drinking it.

[identity profile] jacquilynne.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's possible that Canadian Vanilla Coke and US Vanilla Coke aren't the same formula.

Now everyone knows how I felt when they took away Crystal Pepsi in 1993. I made a movie for English class in which Crystal Pepsi had a focal point in the plot... only to have someone take that nectar of the gods off the market. Grrr.

Incidentally, 1993 was also the year I met [livejournal.com profile] dr4b for the first time.

[identity profile] bhudson.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Ewww, I was in high school in 1993. Yucko. Although I think that's the year I taught myself pascal, and possibly when we discovered Tropicana (or rather, when it discovered our town).

[identity profile] bhudson.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... and I was in Canada and it sucked.

Yup, I concede, it's all Canada's fault.

[identity profile] genericman.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)

/me orders you a case of Fox's U-Bet® Vanilla Syrup for a comparable substitute

<snob>You haven't had a Vanilla Coke until you've had a real one at a coffee shop or ice cream shop / soda fountain.</snob>

[identity profile] bhudson.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Does Pamela's do this?

[identity profile] genericman.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Klavon's has a marker denoting the high-water mark during the infamous floods (1936, I believe).

I will be in NY for Thanksgiving but will return to Pittsburgh on Saturday the 26th.

[identity profile] ssaiscps.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
boo!

[identity profile] nykkel.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Can't say that I'll miss Vanilla Coke -- at least in the diet version, the Vanilla seemed to overwhelm the Coke flavor. The article says Diet Coke w/Lemon is also going away... I think that got supplanted by Diet Coke w/Lime, for some reason.

And for those who laugh at Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper, the article mentions Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke is coming. Heh.

[identity profile] jacquilynne.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ya know, maybe that's my problem. I was probably drinking diet.

[identity profile] cmdr-zoom.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
I find myself wondering (1) if cherry and vanilla are already part of "cola" flavor, and they're just increasing the proportions; and (2) if so, if we'll eventually just wind up with "double cola" - same mix, just twice as much syrup per volume.

(Nah, because soda companies are stingy.)

And lime was trendier than lemon, so it won.

[identity profile] danno-san.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Vanilla Coke is fantastic only if you don't drink it on its own. Vanilla Coke and Pizza is wonderful, but I can't drink just a bottle of Vanilla Coke without something to go with it.

[identity profile] sleeplessone.livejournal.com 2005-11-06 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree.

[identity profile] fuj.livejournal.com 2005-11-06 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Does this mean I have to bring you the stuff down when I visit next time? :o

[identity profile] sleeplessone.livejournal.com 2005-11-06 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I'll have to go back to buying Vanilla extract.
