Eddie From Ohio From Virginia

Last night I went to see Eddie From Ohio at the Triple Door. What stymies me is that last time I was running late to the show and I got a great seat right up by the stage, but this time I was an hour early and I ended up sitting pretty far back. The only difference I can tell is that this time I was dead center in front of the stage but far back, and last time I was like 2 rows back but off to the side of the stage. I dunno.

Set List:

Big Noise
Stay
And The Rain Crashed Down
Clear and Present Danger
Hey Little Man
Fifty Pounds
Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown
Irish Dream
Santa Margherita
Lady Freedom
Adios, Lorena
No Pain, No Problem
Oh My Brother (with a new "I Believe" ending)
[Eddie's Drum Solo]
It's All Right
Operator
------------
Drive
Old Dominion

It's funny, they said they were specifically trying not to play anything they played last time they were here, and they pretty much didn't, except maybe like... 3 songs (And The Rain Crashed Down, Adios Lorena, and Old Dominion). I guess that's ok, but I was actually kinda hoping to hear Baltimore again, and more of the acapella stuff.

I think the entire show was worth it just for Mike's rendition of "No Pain, No Problem". I don't really like that song much as it's recorded on the album, but it's HILARIOUS live.

I think I've actually heard them play every song on This Is Me live now, between yesterday's concert and the one in December, which is pretty cool. It was also cool to hear them do so many older songs (specially Santa Margherita, and Big Noise).

Julie changed the words to Old Dominion to reflect the new sports situation in DC -- I actually recorded some of the concert with my digital camera but the sound is a lot worse than I thought, so I can't actually tell the exact rewording, but it sounded like "they're coming down from Pittsburgh, and bringing all their hats / And in the land near Washington they're rooting for the Nats."

It was also cool to hear Drive -- that's the new song they wrote for some PGA Golf reality TV show (no, I'm really not making that up, and neither are they apparently). It's a pretty fun song.

Because I already have all of their albums and the last two signed, I decided to bug out after the show instead of sticking around to talk to the band, since there was a huge crowd. I did get an EFO poster off the wall since the show was over, and then I took the bus back home, etc.

By the way, those of you that like EFO and are down in the Bay Area (like [profile] sarahnade, or [profile] catamorphism I think), they are playing in Berkeley tomorrow (Friday) night! You should go see them. (see the details on efohio.com under tours)

"they're coming down from Pittsburgh, and bringing all their hats / And in the land near Washington they're rooting for the Nats."

whoa, that's awesome. I don't think it would be Pittsburgh, though. More likely a town or county in Virginia. But I don't know my own state well enough to say what it could be...

Ah. wait, something just occurred to me about that line. Mike and Robbie (and Eddie?) follow it up with 'fight for old D.C.', which is from Hail to the Redskins, which wouldn't exactly apply to the Nationals... did they sing it anyway, or did they come up with something new for that, too?

(ironically, Washingtonians are fairly apathetic about the Nationals - in the time we've all lived here without a team, we've all adopted different National League teams :)

when I saw them two weekends ago, it was "The colonials down in Williamsburg wear three pointed hats / and in the land near Washington they're rooting for the Nats".

It actually took me a minute to figure out what brought on the change.

Also, if you decide you'd like to get a good copy of the show sometime in the future, you should ask Bob (the sound guy) to let you tape off the board (if you have something that will plug into that easily. They're usually pretty cool about it (though I've never actually gotten up the energy to do it myself.)

In the meantime if you want a fix, they've moved the old edhead live shows archive to archive.org, including some new shows from this year.

Yaaay, EFO! I adore Santa Margherita. When they were here in Pittsburgh back in March, I nabbed Robbie at intermission and asked if they were going to play it, and they weren't planning to but he managed to sneak it in right before they finished. They said they hadn't played it in a long while and took it pretty slow, so it's nice to see it back on the set list! (Of course, in EFO-time, two months might be a "long while" for all I know...)

Hmm, I was planning on being elsewhere, but maybe I should go. Thanks for linking... I should really check the Freight and Salvage schedule more often.
