Weekend Update; Canada 'n' Star Wars
I couldn't be in Pittsburgh to celebrate
bhudson's birthday so instead I went up to Canada.
Well, so
metroid23 and
nykkel and
kickahaota were planning a trip to Canada to play IIDX, and I ended up going with them. We pretty much went straight to E-Spot with a brief stop at A&W for lunch. It was pretty uncrowded when we got there, and I got in a few games of IIDX and Drummania and all, and watched Met kick ass at IIDX, and watched some other super-scary dude playing drummania.
fuj and
bubbledragonnet showed up after a while and they kidnapped me on an adventure to look for baseball and hockey cards. We went around some mall and to a collectibles store and to a Toys'r'Us and some places and I was good and didn't buy anything, but I can't say the same for Fuj and Ryan as they picked up a whole buncha hockey cards.
We went back to E-Spot and I played videogames for a couple hours. I beat the heck out of the Puzzle Fighter machine both on normal and hard level, despite that the controller sticks didn't actually work (and I couldn't actually hit "down" most of the time). I also played a bunch of Puzzle Bobble. Oh, and a token game of Guitar Freaks, and of Rock Fever, and a couple of KeyboardMania. Fuj and I played a game of DDR together too just to be silly. I played IIDX when I could get a game in edgewise, and I still suck, but I had fun playing stuff (I kept doing sets like "PNM songs" or "stuff with little hearts in the title"). Eventually Fuj and Ryan left and a little while later
sylffor showed up, so that was cool and we got to hang out with him for a bit. Eventually we all got hungry and it also got to be like 8pm, so we left the arcade and went to the White Spot for dinner. It claims to be a Legendary Restaurant, which makes it a step below an Ultimate restaurant, I suppose. It wasn't too bad though.
We rode home in the car listening to my Guitar Freaks / Drummania Best Tracks CD and reminiscing about songs. There was no line at the border (though it was kinda amusing when I tried to explain DDR to the border guard). Got in around 12:30am or so I suppose. Since I'd only gotten 4 hours of sleep the night before and somehow managed to stay awake all day, I crashed pretty hard upon getting home.
Woke up today around noon. I mostly wasted the afternoon due to the stupid rain that kept happening, and my own inability to pick up the phone and call people, and my fascination watching the Gameday app for today's Mariners game. I did run over to Fred Meyer to run apartment-related errands, and I ended up going to see Star Wars Episode III with Megan and Josh in the later evening. I won't post any spoilers, but I will say that it had the silliest dialogue EVER. I personally was a little disappointed in it after so many people had told me it was good, but it wasn't totally lousy, and certainly not as awful as Episode II. At least we walked to/from the theater which starts my week off at 2 miles.
Speaking of the Mariners game... lots of love for Aaron Sele, who turned in a complete-game shutout against the Padres, 9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO. And more love for our favorite veteran catcher, Pat Borders, who was just called up and caught the game today. While Larry LaRue thinks the team needs a makeover, I am pretty sure he's dead wrong on a few of his assertions (namely things like trading Moyer, who will probably tell the team to stick it if they try). Hopefully Sele's gotten something fixed in his motion, because he really did have a great outing against the Yankees, and today's game was awesome too. His next start should be against Tampa Bay, who suck compared to the Yankees and Padres, so that will be the telling game, I think.
Though, yesterday's baseball looks even more exciting, especially where the Rangers mauled the Astros 18-3 with a metric ton of home runs. "Perhaps Alfonso Soriano and Michael Young did not get the memo about the giveaway. Of the starting nine Rangers hitters, they were the only ones not to hit a home run."
And in other bizarre baseball links we have a supposed personal ad from one of the Rainiers, which is just kind of... odd. If I were a few years younger I'd respond to it just to see if it were for real :)
