my birthday.

I had a pretty good birthday after all!

I (kinda) played in one round of the Jorvik blockade in PP, and then Carl and I went to Snappy Dragon, where we got too much food. Oops. Then we went to Math'n'Stuff though, where I got more cool dice, including a d34! :) Then we sat around for a bit, and I cleaned up the place a little more, and then we walked around Greenlake a bit. We went to the bunny hill and looked at the bunny rabbits.

Carl gave me a birthday present of a 7 foot by 7 foot crossword puzzle. I don't actually have a wall in my apartment capable of hanging it up even if I finish it, but we'll see.

We went to Todai, where I had a fun fun fun birthday dinner with a whole buncha people! Katy, Seth, Paul, Llyne, Jack, Chris, Casey, Brian, Brian's brother, and Carl and I all had dinner, and sat around hanging out for a while. I made a "dessert sushi" arrangement which was pretty funny -- I think I ate as much dessert as I did real food, heh. I mostly ended up talking to Casey and Brian during dinner. Afterwards, people came to my apartment and we played board games and stuff. Carl and Seth and Llyne and I played Ticket to Ride, while Katy, Paul, Eli, Jarrett, and Jack played Set and then Ricochet Robot. Then I got out Constructionary, which is this Lego charades game I bought a loooong time ago but never actually played. It had some huge issues with dialects -- like some of us just didn't know some of the words that came out (the west coasters didn't know what a "pencil box" was, and none of us were sure what game "pass the orange" was, and I'd never heard of a "pancake turner" as an item). It was still fun though, I think. Then people just sat around chatting for a while and eventually went home.

wheee, I am old, but it was a pretty good birthday. Thank you all for your fun LJ birthday wishes and whatnot :)

Whoah. Where was Constructionary originally published? (Yeah, I'm too lazy to Google it right now.)

I'd put money on the Ohio Valley--I carried my school supplies in pencil boxes, didn't call a pancake turner a spatula until I was about 16, and had to play "Pass the Orange" at many silly Brownie Girl Scout get-togethers. (In short: Get a bunch of people to stand around in a circle. Put an orange under one person's chin. Pass the orange around the circle from chin to chin, no hands allowed.)

Anything on the box show it having Pittsburgh-related roots? (You didn't pick up "pancake turner" while at CMU? Hee.) Actually, that may be Lemur's-Parents'-Household-specific dialect rather than Pittsburghese, but anyway . . .

Pass the Orange, while having the same rules in both places, is a whole lot kinkier when played in a college dorm than when played in a brownie meeting.

I thought pancake turner was one of these Perfect Pancake (http://www.perfectpancake.net/) things. (Like most as-seen-on-tv products, the commercials for that thing are absolutely silly. Who makes pancakes by frying them in a stick of butter?)

I was curious what ‘Pass the Orange’ was - turns out, I knew already, kinda.

I'm glad you had a good time, and I'm really sorry Kiefer and I couldn't make it!

Happy belated birthday! I'm still really behind on LJ since being out of DSL for a week and change and haven't really read much backlog. *hug*
