Mobot, and seeing a ton of people, and Pirates and Cubs, and...
So, I got up around 11am, and got to campus at 12:05pm, for Mobot.
I basically found a spot about halfway up the hill and just kinda stood around for an hour while a bazillion people came up to me and said hi. Anyone who was there can tell you that this is entirely exactly what happened. I saw
mj2q, and
bhudson, and
chamois, and Trey, and Justin, and Brian Olson, and Kevin Babbitt, and Forest, and Matt Sheby, and Jayen, and Ben Kane, and Tom McElroy, and
zyrain, and
sk4p, and
bk2w and
tshuma, and
kerya, and probly other people I'm forgetting offhand. I got a big group hug tackle from people at one point and it nearly made me cry. Some of us were really hungry after an hour or two of Mobot, so we departed to go to Lulu's for lunch. On the way there we merged our group with
cyano,
derekbbell,
jgs,
rsbdeadman,
red_haired_girl,
ka3ytl, and Pod; then while walking there we briefly got intercepted by
blk and
vandebeast, and when we got there we kinda had to split up into groups to actually get a table or two to sit at. I ended up at a table with Benoit, Andrea, Neal, and Tom. It was pretty fun and we sat around talking for ages, with some other people occasionally subbing in to the table from elsewhere.
Eventually we all walked back to campus. I went to Benoit's office with him, and his officemate Kevin (Watkins) was actually there! And it was cool because he was all like, in a procrastination mood, and was happy to see me, so we sat around and chatted for like an hour or two, after Benoit had to leave. It really was pretty great to catch up with Kevin, he's so nice and so smart and so cool.
After that I stopped by the lounge, and there were a ton of people there, and I said hi to some, and I saw
zaph, who asked if I wanted to go to the Cubs game tonight, and I said maybe, but I'd have to check with some other people. Well, so I get no signal in the lounge, so I went to call
genericman just to confirm that I'd still go to a game with him next week even if I went to the Cubs game... and after I hung up with him, I was intercepted by Justin Weisz, so we ended up walking to the Wean lobby to sit around and hang out together. We were intercepted there by
dleung8 and Tom-the-grad-student-I-met-at-the-Argosy-cruise, and also
visionline came by for a bit. Tom and Derek seemed to be under the impression there was some sort of TG going on in NSH, even though Benoit had told me earlier there was not. So we went over there to check out the possibility -- except as I was walking past LTI,
ketsugami came out of his office hallway and I ended up standing there talking to him for like an hour, eventually going back to his office, where he is apparently The New Michael Duggan, since he officemates with Dave Svoboda and has a penchant for anime stuff. Anyway, Django said a lot of sweet things too, which nearly made me cry for the second time in a day. Eventually Neal-the-old-guy-from-Vermillion showed up and took Django away, at which point I went back up to the CS lounge... where nobody had moved and they were all playing cards.
I went outside to call Carl and see what he was up to, and sat with Rob and Van and Neal at CS Volleyball for a bit (but my right ankle was giving me trouble again so I didn't play), and Carl was still at work, and there was no plan I knew of for the evening, so I decided, what the heck, I'd go to the Cubs game with
zaph. We left campus around 6:20, for a 7:05 game...
...drove downtown, found parking, and got to the ticket booth line at around 7:05...
...but there were huge lines. We ended up in line behind Susie Cribbs and her friend whose name I have totally totally forgotten, but he knew me and other APhiO people from the mid-90's. It turned out they were also meeting up with this guy Bill who I'd been in a bunch of tech writing classes with, whose last name I've already forgotten but it started with a W, and his wife, and another friend. So we ended up in line for a long time talking to them, and after that we actually got tickets next to them, which was kinda funny, but the seats kinda sucked -- they were close, but you couldn't see the big board because of the angle of the roof above the seats. Lawrence and I eventually gave up and moved to a section right behind home plate, around the 7th or 8th inning. We only got INTO the game in the 3rd inning, so... it was Jason Bay Bobblehead Night, see, so now I have a Jason Bay bobblehead. I have half a mind to give it to Megan or Josh when I get back to town :)
Oh, so wow, a baseball game where I didn't keep score or take notes. It was the Pirates vs. the Cubs, and it was really weird because the Pirates are all people I've never heard of, and the Cubs are all people who I remember being on other teams (like Nomar, and Aramis Ramirez, who got booed when he stepped up to bat each time, and Neifi Perez who I saw on the Giants, etc). Carlos Zambrano was the starting pitcher, and he didn't do too badly, but the bullpen kinda blew the game and eventually the Pirates won, 7-5. There were a whole bunch of home runs hit, and it was actually a really quick game for such a high-scoring game, being over at like 9:30 or so.
I am still planning to go to a game on Monday I think, depending on weather forecast, maybe.. I still need to go to the team store and stuff and see if there's anything neat :) I think I'll have a goal of getting to the park a LOT earlier next time though.
We got back to campus around 10:30 and went to Midway, where Carl met up with me, and where
bk3c found me and gave me leftover bread pudding from a big dinner at Buca, or something. Ben and Carl and I ended up walking around for a bit, eventually ending up in the UC for a while... then Ben went to pick up Aiton, and Carl and I went to the lounge, where Carl napped on the couch and I got sucked into a game of Spades. Then we came back here. An outdoors cat followed us up Morewood after I lured the cat out of sitting in the middle of the street. It was cute. The end.
I have probly forgotten stuff, but being so happy to see so many friends and get hugged by so many people, I think I am in overload.

Aramis Ramirez got booed because he's an ex-Pirate. While he was with us he was streaky and a salary burden.
