stupid PP

Hm, last day of work today maybe? Neato.

Went to Drew's after work, had dinner with him and Al and Lahut, which was good. Drew and Lahut and I played some short games since Drew wanted to go to sleep early for Puzzle Hunt. Whee.

Came home, saw that all hell has broken loose on PP -- they've released TWO new oceans tonight. This makes me incredibly sad/grumpy because it's going to turn PP into all of those other stupid MMORPGs... the new "missions" are already super-RPG-like as M. put it, and now you'll have the whole "I mostly play as Janthina on the Midnight server, but I have my character created on the Cobalt and Viridian servers as well" thing. Gaahhh. If you want to come hang out with me in PP from now on, I'll probably stick to Midnight mostly anyway. I think most people who mean much of anything to me are also going to be there.

I'm gonna go to sleep soon hopefully, and wake up around 8am I hope, and then be dead to the world for 36 hours for Microsoft Puzzle Hunt. Thing is I'm bringing my laptop with me, so there's a chance I won't be dead to the world. But still.


I got this ship a few weeks ago but never mentioned it. Ain't it cool? It's for my most-outed alt, Thirdling. A white/white sloop called the Third Ling, heheh:



Oh yeah, and she also got her portrait done. I was going for the theme of her being the ghost queen of Turtle Island (since the idea was she was supposed to be my ghost in the first place):

The major difference in the YPP missions is that, when you complete them, you don't get anything.

I'm not sure the multiple-oceans thing is going to be any worse than the alts we have now--it'll just be that your alts may never talk to each other. Especially if they divide the forums by ocean, then it may just turn out to be several instances of PP running simultaneously.

Well, you get nifty uniforms from the navy missions if you play long enough. Which is apparently a fairly big draw for many new players (u giv me shoes plz?)

All in all, I think they make decent teaching tools - a lot of new folks need structured "assignments" or they don't know they aren't supposed to just swordfight or hang out in the crowsnest the first few times they board a ship. If the whole game was built around that, I'd agree it was super-RPG-like, but you pretty much run them out quickly and then you're back to looking for your own fun, the way it's always worked, just with more practice at the most common idioms.

Well let's put it this way: There's either multiple oceans, or they have to cap the number of players at what it is now, and they run out of money to pay their staff, to implement new things, and the company collapses.

I think the missions are kind of fun but yeah, it's bad for crews. I know that I wouldn't have stayed long in a crew if I would've had missions to do.

I don't know I don't like the multiple oceans either. I know there wasn't much choice in the matter but still. I already feel a measure of disconnect between the people who are moving there full time and myself, who is not moving anywhere.
