We didn't do quiz tonight.
I decided to go try to hunt down a copy of Play (GBS's third, but I think Canada-only released, album). I even went to Silver Platters for the first time -- and no kidding, that place DOES have like, a ton of obscure random CDs. But it didn't have Play. Grr.

Instead, I went to Best Buy, (picking up Ivar's for dinner on the way yummmmm,) where I bought a headset with a mic so I can talk to PP people over the net. I also picked up Katamari because I saw it there -- not because I actually plan to play it any time soon, but just because it was there.

And then I got music. bk1e would be proud of me, since I picked up Flogging Molly's "drunken lullabies" and "within a mile of home", which are both AWESOME and go perfectly with my mood of "angry that they didn't have the Great Big Sea album I wanted". I also picked up a Pogues album... I can't find any of my Pogues tapes. This kinda sucks.

Uhh, then I came home and played on the Ice Ocean on Puzzle Pirates. It has the new shipwright puzzle, which I think sucks, but on the other hand, I got myself up to Broad/Ultimate in carpentry so I have a funny shot of me being the ONLY person in the ocean on the carpentry top ten :)

Yeah, I know. I first played it like 6-7 months before it got translated and imported over here. Part of why I never picked it up in English is because I really would rather have it in Japanese... I *hate* the King, and I like that in Japanese I can just turn off my translation circuits in my brain and ignore him. But I haven't been back to Japan since and it's just not worth ordering an import of a game I won't play that much.

Play is pretty much trivially easy to get used copies of up here, you want I should grab one for you sometime and send it your way?

I think at least 1/3 of my friends list lives in Canada. Well, maybe not Canada, but at least, not America.

Hmm. What I can't decide is whether it's more likely I'll take a trip up to Vancouver BC any time soon or not. (Because I mean, then I can just go hunt in CD stores there.) Otherwise it sounds like a fabulous idea.

Ooooh, cdplus looks like a pretty good deal too. Hmm. And then I can gather loose ends of other Canadian bands I need to pick up albums by :)

Shipping is a bit expensive, but they are much cheaper than Amazon or your local store, because they have to compete with Canadian CD stores (imagine how wonderful a deal it was *before* the US currency imploded).

I'll second the cdplus recommendation, I've often found that their price is the best around, even factoring in the shipping. Go Canada.

As far as US vendors are concerned, I've also gotten quite good deals from cheap-cds.com (http://cheap-cds.com). Selection isn't the best, but if they have something, it's likely quite cheap.

I did a little bit of sailing. Pretty regularly in the top-10 on Midnight, and only Legendary on ICE. Ouch.

Cool. I agree that both albums are awesome. Their previous album "Swagger" is not quite as awesome, in my opinion.

I seem to recall listening to "within a mile of home" in your car when I was in Austin, right? It sounded so familiar even on the first listen.

Oddly, Best Buy had those two albums and Swagger. I randomly chose two. Guess I made a good choice.

You still need to listen to Great Big Sea if you haven't though -- I recommend getting Sea of No Cares. Or one of their live albums (the recent "Great Big CD and DVD" is pretty awesome, and I still need to pick up "Road Rage"). Or I could just make you a mix CD. Well, either way, I think you will like them a lot.
