Weekend update. Games and presents and chasing the sunset
Friday evening I didn't do much of anything. I came home from work and played Puzzle Pirates with my crew. Stayed up way too late chatting with Sinlaeshel. I hope he doesn't become the next Chernabog in my PP life, because I really do need to get more sleep. I did, however, on the way home, stop at Sunset Bowl for one game of DDR. It was a Friday night so there were a ton of very drunk people there yelling random things. I decided to play Paranoia KCET Heavy as an extra stage to shut them up, but I think I pulled something in my foot. Sigh. So I left.
Saturday I got up woozy and sat around reading for a bit. I'm about 3/5 of the way through "The Mick" now and it is quite an entertaining book, especially after seeing 61*. So I ended up not going to Colleen and Justin's one-year-birthday party for Zak, because I was in a pretty mellow mood and I'd told Justin I was only a "maybe" anyway. Around 5 I headed up to Nykkel's house to hang out and play board games. Phaedrus, DJ, and Farren were also there. First we played a game of Traders of Genoa, which Drew had recommended to me ages ago but I had never played. I don't think it was a particularly good learning game for me -- I'm not sure I got a sense of how things really will work -- the game ended fairly quickly all things considered and I ended up tying for second place with Farren, again despite not knowing what I was doing. But I'd play it again. Phaedrus left after that, and the rset of us went to the teriyaki place nearby for dinner; Farren and Nykkel spent the whole dinner talking about World of Warcraft. Kinda like how a year ago Nykkel and I would sit there talking incessantly about Puzzle Pirates. I stopped off at Safeway and got cookies and walked back to Nykkel's for a game of Tigris & Euphrates. Nykkel had really wanted to play T&E, so I'd brought it over. The thing is, Farren had played it once, last summer, and DJ and Nykkel had never played. I decided to be non-obnoxious and attempt to not rush people through the game, and to offer advice and point out some strategic things and whatnot. I think it worked okay as a learning game, and we should play it again sometime. I ended up winning with a score of like 6. I think Nykkel had 5 and DJ had 4 and I forget Farren's score.
Went home after that. I got pulled into a huge pillage on PP with Buri. I gunned for 3 hours and got like 13k for the effort. That's not too bad I suppose. He's got this whole "Buri's Beauties" joke going where he'll only pillage with female characters with Ultimate SB. At first I was sort of put off by this, but actually, it's pretty fun in a way, and the poe is good. I'm going to be on Buri's OCL brawl team, so I have to get used to him again.
I got really confused and somehow had thought Paul's fudge party was actually TODAY, not yesterday, which is why I didn't show up. Imagine my surprise when I saw his LJ entry about it :(
Today we had our Secret Santa party at Heidi and Cory's house. We had a whole lot of people there, and ate leftover food from yesterday and hung out talking for several hours. We had the whoooooole gang there plus some, which was cool. I think most people were happy with the presents they got, too. In the chain: I had gotten Megan the Stitch'n'Bitch Nation book and a general knitting book and a gift certificate to a yarn store. Megan had gotten Eli a lime tree and some kit or book about raising citrus trees. Eli had gotten Andi some books about gardening. Andi had gotten Colleen a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure. Colleen got Mike a 12-pack of Mountain Dew and a membership to Costco. Mike got Josh a Lord of the Rings Xbox RPG game. Josh got Ficus a really cool pepper grinder. Ficus got Heidi also the Stitch'n'Bitch nation book and some knitting supplies. Heidi got Justin a sawhorse stand thingy. Justin got Cory the Return of the King extended DVD remix. And Cory got me... BRITISH RAILS! WHEEEE! It was funny because I unwrapped it and then said "But none of you guys will PLAY it with me!"
After the party, I was driving home. I had thought of going and playing DDR, but instead I noticed, it was like 4:30pm, the sun was off in the distance towards sunset and I could clearly see the Olympic mountains in the distance, so I decided to go chase the sunset, so to speak. I got off the highway on 85th street and just kept driving... past Greenwood, past 15th street, driving more and more. Eventually I got to where it ended and drove down the hill to Golden Gardens park. I parked and got out and walked along to the pier thingy and watched the sunset. It was the most gorgeous sunset I have seen in quite some time. It was very very red, almost like the sky was set on fire. I walked back to the car and listened to "Boston and St. John" as the last bits of light disappeared from the sky, and then I drove home, where I wasted time on PP, moving ships and pillaging. I decided to log out of PP to write this entry and take care of other things I need to. I may go play DDR too. We'll see.

Golden Gardens is pretty cool. The Olympics were incredible last night, too. =)

(Have you met the ducks at Golden Gardens? North from the parking lots over the grassy field to the pond, at the edge of the beach.)

I don't think I'd actually been to this park before -- though driving south from it, I went by Ray's, so I must have at least been in the area.
