and the catcher, at-soooo-ya fu-roooo-ta

So, I'm finally actually up AND listening to the Nichi-Bei audio coverage on mlb.com and it's going to drive me NUTS how they can't pronounce any names. Every time they say a player's name I flinch. I dunno how they can pronounce, say, Iwakuma right, but not Iwamura? "And there is... Shigenobu Shima. He's wearing the red of his home team... what, it looks like the Philadelphia Phillies." (They can't even remember that he's on the Hiroshima Carp, ha.) On the other hand the NPB stars are winning 3-0 :) :) I missed the beginning so I dunno who scored, but it's sounding like Iwakuma is pitching one HECK of a game. Ironic since he's the only one of the OKB to actually make it onto the all-stars team, too. As of right now he's only let up like one hit in 6 innings or so. And he's pitching vs. Clemens...

I shouldn't be up, really. I need to get sleep. Today at work they dropped a bunch of stuff for me to do, by Friday, and it's just really kind of beyond me. I'll do what I can, though.

Today after work I went out to dinner with [profile] thatenglishguy; we went to Kanishka, an Indian place in Redmond which neither of us had been to before. It was actually pretty damn good. Sat around and talked for a few hours, which was interesting; he has a lot of perspectives on stuff that I hadn't really heard before and a lot of fun stories. We'll have to hang out again sometime :)

I worry that if I stop listening to the baseball game, the NPB will stop winning. I hope I'm wrong because I don't want to be up until 5am!

(Oh god. They were talking about Iwakuma like "He was on that team that won the Series right? No... that was the Seibu team that Kaz was on? No, wasn't it Chu... Chunichi or whatever? No, it was Seibu. Iwakuma is on the Osaka Buffaloes? What?")

If anyone cares, I just tallied all the baseball tickets I've been collecting in a pile from games this year. I think I have 'em all, 28 games total.
22 Mariners games (1 vs Expos, 1 vs Twins, 1 vs Orioles, 1 vs Padres, 1 vs White Sox, 1 vs Indians, 1 vs Tampa Bay, 2 vs Anaheim, 2 vs Yankees, 2 vs Astros, 3 vs Rangers, 3 vs Oakland, 3 vs Red Sox)
1 Tacoma Rainiers (vs Fresno Grizzlies)
1 Philadelphia Phillies (vs Dodgers)
1 San Francisco Giants (vs Diamondbacks)
1 Anaheim Angels (vs Red Sox)
1 Yomiuri Giants (vs Yakult Swallows)
1 Chiba Lotte Marines (vs Nippon Ham Fighters!)

(Oh dear FUCKING lord they just pronounced Shima's name as "Shinjinobi". I am going to sleep now, you stupid announcers, and I hope to heck that the NPB wins or I will be very sad.)

You went to almost as many Sox games as I did! I went to 5. The only team I saw play this year that you didn't was the Blue Jays. Next year I'd like to see the Sox play somewhere other than Fenway. I think that would be neat.

I probably won't make it to Seattle, at least not next year. But if you love baseball you really need to see a game at Fenway. Its awesome!

Hang out again

HELP ME, SHINJINOBI! YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE! *ZZT*

Hahahahahahahaha. Yeah, during the coverage of the series over here on the local news they sometimes use footage from MLB with their own comments dubbed over the American announcers, and sometimes I can hear snippets of what they're saying underneath the Japanese commentary.

And it makes me wonder what kind of trouble they'd have if Fukudome was playing. Mheheh. "AND FUCKYOUDOM HITS A LINE DRIVE TO LEFT...."

Well at least it sounds like the Japanese announcers have read the press dockets and have gone over the names before they go on the air. From what you describe it sounds like the MLB announcers don't even have a roster in front of them.

Heh. Hideckey Motsewey.

I get the same thing watching British announcers pronounce Japanese racers' names. It's pretty funny.
