dr4b: (mariners)

Sunday / Monday - baseball, hanging out, winning trivia night, etc.

Sunday, I got up and went to the Mariners game with Casey. Yeah, it's two straight games, but this was my last regular season game. I drove and Casey walked and we met up at the glove and went in. We were really early; I had time to eat and THEN get a scorecard and still be in time for the starting lineups.

The game itself wasn't too great or too bad. Madritsch was pitching again and he did okay; his ERA went down since he only gave up 2 runs in 7 innings, but he lost the game anyway since Redman only gave up 1. (For some reason Redman was listed as #55 in the roster and on the board but was wearing #18.) Anyway, Ichiro didn't get any hits so Casey didn't get to see the big fanfare, but on the other hand something really funny happened - I forget who was on second at the time, but someone hit a long fly ball to right field, which was caught and thrown infield to third REALLY hard and fast and accurate, enough so much that the person on second actually decided to stay there instead of running. Everyone in our section was all like "yeah! Rule #51 - Don't go on Ichiro!" etc etc. Infact I wondered why they didn't put that up on the board, until about five minutes later...

"...WAIT. Guys... remember that AWESOME Ichiro throw? That wasn't Ichiro! That was HIRAM BOCACHICA!"

Bocachica was playing right field and Ichiro was DH. It's funny how we're just so used to Ichiro in RF that if we see an amazing catch and throw from there, we just assume it was Ichiro. Hee. We had a good laugh over that one.

We also were doing more "mound conference theater" for most of the game, except for some reason it kept involving a running gag about the Cloverdale Meats sign on the scoreboard.

So anyway, ah well, I was almost inclined to say goodbye or something to the guys who had season tickets next to me all year but for some reason I didn't. I'll probly get season tickets again next year but I doubt they'll be in the same place. Shrug. I just remember how when I was a kid my mom was friends with everyone in our section at Veterans stadium, including the ushers. I guess maybe it'd be different if I had a 40-game plan. :)

After the game I gave Casey a ride home, and in retrospect it probably would have been quicker for him to walk back to Capitol Hill. Traffic sucked downtown for a Sunday afternoon, but I guess it gave us more time to chat and stuff. I got to come in and see Casey's new place, and all I can say is that it's GIGANTIC. I can't imagine having all that space to one person... ah well. We hung out talking a while (and in retrospect I think I sounded like a complete idiot, I should know better than to babble about life) and then I went home for a few minutes,

and then I headed to Megan and Josh's house to catch the tail end of "girls' night out", except it was actually Girls' Sunday Afternoon Movie and Dinner In. I'd missed the movie but showed up just in time to take a walk to the duck pond a bit north of the house, while Josh and Ficus cooked dinner and dessert for everyone. Everyone was uh, Megan and Caitlin and Heidi and Colleen and then two other people I don't know (but I think one was Katie of Katie-and-Tim where Tim is someone's former boss, and one was one of Megan's coworkers?) I got to play piano a bit and I really should come over and do so more often. Dessert was cranberry cobbler and Josh sprayed whipped cream all over the table and Colleen lost it and couldn't stop laughing. I hung out for a while and then came home around 10ish. I know I did something in PP but I honestly don't remember aside from fighting skellies and throwing another classic Janthina cutlass tourney since the skellies gave me a new cutlass, and hanging out on a ship with Rome and Mizzunique for a few hours while finishing up checking out my windows machine to make sure it was ready to kill.

Monday I went to work and then I went to Quiz Night at the Irish Emigrant. Josh and I wanted to name our team "Muppets Versus Kappamores" (because of three regular teams, "Muppets for Jesus", "Monkey Versus Robot" and "Kappamores"; the latter team wins almost half of the time), but it got vetoed so we used an old standby of "Leaders of the C Team", because what they do at Quiz is, if there are enough teams, they split all the groups up by scores into the A team and the B team after the first two rounds. The "C Team" would unofficially be worse than all the other teams there :)

And boy, did we suck up those first two rounds, so we ended up in the B Team, and Megan and Ficus were both like "We should go somewhere else, this is lame-o".

And then the bingo round hit. We got 20 out of 25 answers right AND we got a bingo! (The final answer for our bingo was #13, "What year did the Red Sox last win a world series?" (Answer: 1918)) Not only that but it was a solo bingo so our team automatically would get the 50 bucks for that. AAAAAAND, getting 20 right meant that our score after that was, in Declan's exact words, "Leaders of the C Team, 20 for 29, and leaders of the B team." Wheeee. Well, then we did the "Who wants to be 40 points richer?" round and for the most part we played it safe and we got 15 points, which actually kept us as leaders of the B team! So we actually managed to also win the overall B team prize!

The prize was like 38 bucks, plus our 50 from bingo, so we each took 14 and left 4 leftover for quiz entry fees next week. Since I only spent 9 bucks on dinner, I came out 5 ahead! Woo!

So yeah. That was pretty cool.

I came home and logged in to PP, and finished up totally cleaning and reinstalling my computer.

On PP, I super-soloed a second ship up to Verdant; that is, had me and an alt on a ship with two swabbies and took turns puzzling on the main computer and the laptop. It took a bit longer because I wasn't avoiding fights, but I got up there with a decent amount of poe, and had a lot of fun. After that, I started reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling Windows, which took a few hours. In the meantime on the laptop, Unikhell and Modesty and I went around hunting skellies. We kept needing extra people to fight and Maxdemian came for one of them and was a major pain in the butt and so I'm going back into muting him until he stops being a buttmunch. The rest of the fights went well, Chern logged in for a bit to take a break from homework and so he came along to fight a bit too.

I crashed around 3:30am while still copying files from backups onto the computer and installing Firefox and all that kinda stuff. Tonight I'll put in the firewall router, and then maybe I'll be safe for a bit. Had a vague spyware scare on the laptop after loading a link someone forwarded and getting a bunch of popups and hearing my computer whir as if it was doing something, but I ran spybot and adaware on the laptop and it didn't find much and I didn't see any new files in the registry or on the computer in general (like I did when the spyware hit my main computer in a frenzy) so I'm not going to worry about it for now.

And there, I think I am caught up.

Katie is married to Tim. Tim was hired at Bluewater soon after Josh was, so they were colleagues (along with Justin, who was hired on at Bluewater eventually). Later Cory worked for Tim, so i guess Tim was his boss. Katie makes our book club happen.

Sheila is my doppleganger from school. Her husband does low-level cs type stuff, and she once worked on sonar systems, for an amazing coincidence. I think she is waaaay cooler than me, but....

I almost forgot that we won quiz night. I've been aggravated all day, i guess its easier to remember all those things that annoy me than the odd winning situation.

When I went to see the game a while back and had these awesome seats.. Bocachica was in the dugout, and kept coming up and stretching his legs like a ballerina... on the pole in front of the dugout... Then he would look over at the girls sitting in front of us...

It was really silly.
