Happy Birthday to Me

So, it's May 7th. I'm 27 years old. Today I'm going to go to lunch with some people, then I'm gonna run a birthday swordfighting tourney on Puzzle Pirates (27 poe entry fee, 27,000 poe prize pot... why does Silverdawg insist on telling people I'm turning 21?), then I'm going to the Yankees game with Eli. Fun fun. Saturday I'm going to Tacoma for the DDR Team Tournament, not to enter but to help out. Sunday... gahh, I've fallen behind on my apartment and therefore probly am not actually having people over.

Wednesday I went to IKEA and bought another bookcase to put videotapes in, and a new computer chair since my old one had all the screws fall out and was actually physically dangerous to sit in. I like my new computer chair lots. I also like the new bookcase, and the old little white bookcase will give me some valuable shelf space to unpack things to, I think. I didn't like lifting and carrying all the stuff though. I am so weak.

In the evening I met up with Casey (after my PP OCL Sea Battle team won the championship, while Durga and I sat on the shore listening), and we went to Stella's and hung out and talked for an hour or two. We hadn't really talked in like... 3 months... so it was good to catch up with him. Hopefully we'll get to hang out more often now.

In PP there was a blockade going on, and it was somewhat depressing. Lots of bad feelings all around, and nobody really sure of whose side they were fighting for. I made a lot of bad jokes to try to make people laugh, though, and Kuibbles singlehandedly sunk two CT ships, so it wasn't all bad. He makes me believe skill *may* do something against numbers in the long run. Maybe. But I was dumb and stayed up until 6am carping for Kui, which got me to #2 in the ocean in carp again, but made me really tired today.

Thursday/today I bussed downtown and met up with Will Frank. We met up at the pig (because he said he'd never told someone to "meet me at the pig") at Pike Place, and ended up at the Pike Place Brewery for dinner. The waitress recommended me a beer that wasn't particularly good, and she was nice enough to not make us pay for it. We had Lindemann's instead anyway. After an hour or two of hanging out there and chatting and whatnot, we went over to tour random art galleries.

I am not very good at the whole "art" thing, to be honest. The first gallery was owned by some friend of Will's (the William Traver Gallery or somethin'). It had a neat glass exhibit and a less neat sculpture exhibit. Will made me come up and schmooze with the owner and some other art people and I was kinda out of it but put on a smile and my chatty voice and I guess I did okay. We went to the store slash smaller gallery there too and looked at a lot of glass and Will schmoozed with more artists while I kinda just looked at all the weird glass thingies.

After that we went to the Seattle Art Museum and just wandered around the 3rd and 4th floors. It was cool to go there because I'd never been there before, but for some reason I don't really get charged by a lot of art museums anymore. Or maybe I was just tired. Either way, all the art stuff was free because it was the first Thursday of the month, so hey, it's a pretty good deal overall I guess.

After the SAM, I said I was a little artsied out, so we walked to Pioneer Square, ending up at the Elliott Bay Book Company, which I'd never gone into before even though Eli raved about it. I ended up picking up an autographed copy of Robert Whiting's new book, "The Meaning of Ichiro", which I read one chapter of while in the store and Will was looking for stuff. I also picked up a book on the general history of baseball in Asia. Yeah, I'm a junkie. Anyway, I'm psyched to read the Robert Whiting book, I really have enjoyed his other stuff.

Came home after that... stopped by Megan and Josh's house to say hi to people (the roleplaying group I'm in a hiatus from because of my travelling), and to get my ticket to the Yankees game from Josh. Man, I'm psyched. After that I wasted time on PP for a bit and unpacked some more junk, and now I should sleep so I can get up before noon :)

I'm psyching up to go drive to California, too. Whee.
