The weekend so far - Sakuracon 2004
Okay, so I overslept on Friday... Jason and I ended up getting to Sakuracon around like, 3pm or something. There was a vague plan which involved meeting up with Drew around 7 or 8pm and getting dinner... so before that we looked around the con a bit. I called Django and he said to meet up by the AMV stuff. I don't usually go to the AMV show, but figured, hey, everyone else was... so it was (ooh, LJ names)
ketsugami,
harinezumi,
siliconrose,
cyfis, Lahut, Jason, and me for AMVs. There was about half and half in terms of entertaining and boring. I was really psyched by one video that did Escaflowne to "The Voice" by the Moody Blues... I was all like "Wait, anime fans are allowed to be Moody Blues fans?"
AMVs were over at 7:30ish; we ended up walking to a Denny's near the con, and Drew met us there. Had dinner, had fun talking to people, etc. I forgot how fun Django is. Hehe. Ran into
tenshiemi and
theonlymegumegu and
islandergirlro there. They were like "We saw Jeff! He has infact slept!"
Jason and I went back to the con after that... we watched some Azumanga Daioh, and then called
damienroc, who had called my phone while I was at Denny's. Jeff was hanging out with Fred Gallagher and people, so we went over to that part of the hotel and summoned him away for a bit to chat. Good times. We'll catch up with him again after... say... Monday :)
After that we went to the arcade games room. They had the normal DDR and PPP... but they also had Pop'n'Music 5 from IZ! on freeplay! WHEEE! So I went and played a whole bunch of games. Mm, free PNM, I could stay there forever. But we didn't. We came back here around 11:30-midnightish, and I proceeded to hook up a few of my videogame consoles and I played Karaoke Revolution (Japanese) until like 2:30 in the morning, hehehe. Hmm, I wonder if Nykkel will lend me (or sell me?) some of his KR games :)
Okay. This morning we got up later than expected as well and went down to the con. I wanted to wear a costume, but didn't really have one... just some ideas... so... I put on my black clingy minidress and tied a red scarf in my hair like a big ribbon, and put on red converse hi-tops, and got out a USPS shipping box and wrote "KIKI TEN YEARS LATER" on it and put my Jiji plushie in it. I didn't actually take a picture of it, I'll have to do that tomorrow or sometime. It was a quite cute costume :)
Anyway, we get to the con around 11:30 and find out that they're all out of cosplay tickets and all out of hiro concert tickets and boy was that annoying. I found Django and Kon in the dealer's room and hung out a bit and then went to the arcade room again. Played some PNM and then noticed down by the Para Para machine that there was a girl doing Para who was rather good at it... that is... it was
zannah. And there was a guy shadowing her wearing a Kazuhiro Kiyohara jersey!! How cool is that? So I'm all like "Hey! You like the Kyojin?" and we got into a conversation... I told him about my Friday "costume", which was, namely, I wore my Koji Uehara jersey and carried my Giants noisemakers and had my Giants pins on my handbag and my Hanshin Hello Kitty, and was basically dressed as a Japanese Baseball Fan. Hehe. So dude, I met a cool guy who likes Para Para and Japanese Baseball. How cool is that?
Did Para for a while. On the way out of the arcade room ran into Steve From Eugene who I met at the DDR tournament last year. This year got his email address, so maybe when I go down to Eugene I can try to catch up with him. Or something.
We decided to go to the Cosplay... I'd scammed a ticket off Rochelle earlier but we didn't have one for Jason, so he was just going to wander around the con and hang out. So Kon and Django and I waited in the cosplay line... and waited... and waited... seating was supposed to start at 2:30. At 3:40 we gave up and decided to pretty much ditch the con for being super-lame.
(Oh, for the record! 7 people took my picture, and MANY people started laughing once they read the box... I'd hear people laughing behind me like "HAHA, Kiki ten years later, that's AWESOME." People said things to me like "Do you really think Kiki would work for the USPS ten years later? Why not Fed Ex?" So... not only ghetto costume but SUCCESSFUL ghetto costume. Whee!)
Anyway, we ditched the con. Lahut and I drove up here with everyone, everyone being me, Jason, Lahut, Django, Kon, Nicole, Lu, and Nicole's boyfriend Tony who I know from DDR, heh. We hung out here for a little while and then went to Blue C, where they put us at that 6-seater table in the back corner... 8 people doesn't really fit there but oh well. We had a LOT of fun grabbing plates of sushi and sharing and talking and all. I was super-happy to get to bring everyone there, and I think they liked it, so it all works out.
Matt drove Nicole and Tony and Lu (Oh ya... the funniest thing happened on the way there. Django and Jason and I were in my car, and Django didn't think Lu was in Matt's car... we passed them on 99 around 75th street, and Django's like "They do NOT have Lu in that car." We call Nicole, confirm this, and drive back to my place, where we find Lu standing on the streetcorner looking really confused. Oops.) back to the con after that, and the rest of us came back to my place.
Django and I played some AMAZING Pokemon Puzzle League matches for around 45 mins while waiting for Matt to get back. Oh man, that was awesome. We were going for 6-7 minutes on average in our 2-D matches and 10 minutes in our 3-D matches and it was just fabulous and reminded me of playing with Farren.
Then the five of us (Django, Kon, Matt, me, and Jason) played the "A Game of Thrones" board game (based on some book by George R. R. Martin that I haven't read). It was pretty fun even if I didn't know what I was doing. Around midnight we conceded the game to Matt because I had to get Django and Kon back to the con hotel by 12:30 so they'd be able to find Nicole and get into the room and all. So yeah. Matt had 6 cities and you need 7 to win, so.
Got stuck in an awful backup on I-5 on the way back and I really had to pee the whole way. That sucked. Now I am home and I played a little PP and now will sleep, and see I-Gene tomorrow and probly catch up with the guys again to hang out before they all have to head back to CMU. Whee!
(Yes, I felt guilty that I had ditched the board game party for the con, and then ditched the con to come back here and play board games, but oh well.)
The upshot is, I'll try to at least get a picture of my Kiki costume up soon, since it was mega-cute.
