Hmm.

I just got this crazy idea that I should spend the last two weeks of May driving to San Diego and back, and stopping to visit everyone I know along the way.

Those of us in California encourage this idea. And particularly encourage taking Highway 1 down along the coast the whole way.

In my opinion, 1 between Monterey and San Simeon is windy as heck and thus much nicer to look at when someone else is driving. I guess I consider it a "rite of passage" thing; having done it once, I don't feel compelled to do it again.

Yeah, I can see that section being disliked by some people. I absolutely adore it, as both stunningly beautiful and really fun to drive.

HWY 1 north from Monterey to the Oregon border, however, is generally very nice. There are some sections with good windiness, but not as severe as south.

Actually I loved that section.

Except I got stuck behind traffic. DAMNIT.

The first time I drove on Hwy 1 into Big Sur, I had to stop and pull the car over, I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of it all. Down into Morro Bay and Santa Barbara is lovely as well. It can be a little nervewracking, though, driving that road with bikes riding along side you. Having another driver does make it more enjoyable, in my opinion.

Dee, you should stop by my house. I have a present for you that I've been too lazy to mail.

Driving the coast

I would recommed a trip like that. I did it in 1998. I did it partially last summer (LA to Sacramento and back). Good to experience new things. I went with Laurie and we had a blast.

If you choose to do it, I would be happy to recommend where to go and what to see on your way to your friend's houses.

Sure, but chances are pretty high I won't be around.

My little brother graduates from UBC on May 31 and has asked me to be present. Not that I'm saying that should count for anything, though...

Come visit me! I don't live in San Diego yet, but I will by the end of may.

Ooh Ooh, as you know, i did that in February and loved it. I highly recommend it to anyone. :)

that sounds like an idea I have of flying to San Fran or so, driving up north a day in a rent a car, THEN start bike riding up north back to seattle spending 15 days or so, and stopping by to meet everyone. Excellent idea, but only if you want to drive that much.
