All Hail Senior Officer Janthina!

I'm great at posting in Livejournal, but lately I suck at actually reading it. I've been trying to keep up with friends posts, but I'm usually a day behind. Or more like, I think "I should comment," but then "I have no time, I'm just reading," etc.

Anyway, my big thing for today is that I got promoted to Senior Officer of my crew in Puzzle Pirates! Spinn was all like "This is a WAY overdue promotion," and then blam, I was an SO, and he went around telling people "whee! Senior Officer Janthina!" and I'm all like "umm whoa how cool I don't know what to say arrrrrrr."

So the day. Drove to work, did work, we went to Malay Satay Hut for lunch because the cafe was closed due to power loss. Whoops. After work, got Eli, went to Eastlake, dropped Eli off at Wim's birthday party, went to Josh's house, had D&D. Cory has extremely bad estimation of when adventures will end. We all thought this session was it, but no, we got to the Tower of the Storytellers and rather than fighting some big bad thing, we found the place evacuated with only two clues to tell us where to go next. Arrr! Wonder how well we can time another session what with Colleen's timing and all... well, at least we levelled after this session, and we think there's maybe 2-3 more in this campaign. Or something.

Came home, played PP. Got promoted. Got on board with my crew, and then Eli called for a ride home, so I went and got him, because I'm good like that. Waved to Wim and wished him Happy Decrepitness or whatever. Came back for more PP; helped Pierut sail her new war brig's maiden voyage; chatted with Damienroc; noticed it's WAY TOO LATE; time to sleep.

Oh yeah. Got a package with some late amazon presents from Eli's family. Whee! One of which was the Great Big Sea CD "Sea of No Cares". It is FABULOUS and I love it. Yay!

Basically, nowhere. The only rank above Senior Officer in a crew is Captain, and there can only be one Captain of the crew... and it is unlikely the original Captain is going to demote themselves and promote you. :) Captains do leave sometimes -- the crew I'm in had its Captain leave a month or two ago, and a Senior Officer was promoted to fill the vacancy. Doesn't happen very frequently, though.

Realistically, if you want to advance past Senior Officer, you do it by leaving the crew and becoming Captain of a new crew.

You could also start ascending the flag ranks, depending on how your flag's government is structured.

Nah, our flag doesn't really work like that. Royalty are the Liaisons and a few other titled members who hold specific functions. I don't feel any real need to be any higher in the flag; most of the Azure Yo-hos and FJTR's (and a few Nameless) are kinda the "old guard" of the flag anyway as we were all around to actually create the flag in the first place.

I'm just proud enough of being SO in Spinn's crew - that shows a certain level of dedication and lunacy, I think.

You know, that does happen. Take Saben's crew over there -- Manglodin demoted himself to SO because he wasn't around enough, and made Amaena the captain.

Spinn even said something on the docks last night like "I think I need a break from either my kingliness or my captainliness," although I'm not sure what'll come of it...

Actually, it happened twice. Manglodin demoted himself and promoted Kellee because he wasn't going to be on much. Kellee demoted herself and promoted Amaena, and has turned out not to have been on much since then.

Amaena shows no signs of ever going idle, so she'll probably stay as captain. :)

I wonder if it's bad that most SO's in my crew are claimed by ennui and idleness. We just lost one more officially, and another one has been AWOL for a month.
