Well, how'd I do?

Well, so I made some resolutions last year:

1. Lose weight! I mean it this time! :)
No. The funny thing is, I *did* lose about 10-15 pounds on DDR and whatnot, and I gained it all back. Sigh.

2. Actually pursue studies of one or more asian languages (this means either regain my Japanese skills, or continue dabbling in Korean)
No. I'm not sure I really did much with this aside from my personal attempts at ramping up language skills before I went to Japan. No classes, though.

3. Go to Japan or some other foreign country besides Canada
Yes. Woohoo! I went to Japan *and* Canada!

4. Travel to at least 3-4 new cities. Visit people.
Yes... I think I missed the first part of this, because unless you count time in airports, I didn't go to a single new city this year except Vancouver BC, that I recall. Well, I guess technically I could count Yokohama/Sagamino, I hadn't been there. Or I guess Albany counts too, kinda. Still... I guess the thing is that I've been to most of the cities I have friends in now, so they wouldn't be new if I went back. I did visit a lot of people this year in a ton of places, though. It was fun.

5. Get respectably good at at least 3-4 Bemani games (most likely IIDX, DrumMania, KeyboardMania, and PPP)
Yes, I think I hit this. I'm not like on the upper crust of skill of any of them, but I'd say I'm decent at all of them; I basically fall right below the "mastery" level for each (I can do up to 6 stars in IIDX, the easier Extreme songs in DM, up to 5 faces on Real in KBM, and 95% of the routines in PPP from memory).

6. Raise my DDR tech level to a respectable level for Seattle
Yes, I think I hit this too, even if I'm not really good enough to compete in tourneys or anything.

6a. AAA *something* in the arcade
Yes! 20 November Light, baby! (Hey, it's *something*.)

6b. AA all 7-footers or less, A all 8-footers, B all 9-footers, pass some 10-footers
Yes/No... grar. Well, thanks to Proz I did AA over 100 heavy songs, and I think I got almost all the 7-footers in there; I've got A's or above on most 8-footers not counting aberrations like Waka Laka, B's and above on most 9-footers, and I passed two 10-footers. I also filled up my memcard and stopped carrying it, so oh well.

7. Work on changing my sleeping habits so I'm less tired at work
No. Oh well. I guess this'll carry over into the new year.

8. Spend more time with Eli, less time on videogames
I tried, I think, even if I wasn't as successful as I could have been. Damn Puzzle Pirates.

9. Contrariwise... play more of my videogames that I've bought but have just left sitting around.
No, oops :) I *definitely* sucked at this one :)

10. Watch most of my unwatched VHS movies.
No, aaaaah, I suck I suck I suck. I watched some, I really did, but I bought more than I watched, I think... I need to have movie nights.

11. Read more of my unread books.
Dunno. Hmm, I have read a lot more books this year than in the past, seriously. I started off the year going through my Tom Holt collection and other such stuff in my bus reading time, but in the end I mostly ended up reading baseball-related books which were not in my previously-unread collection.

12. Meet more people in Seattle, especially non-Bemani-affiliated ones.
Yes. I got a little better about this, I think, although I still could do better. More importantly, I think I carried several of my Bemani friendships AWAY from the videogames. But I should start going back to Redmond gaming, and I should go meet some people I've been meaning to, and be more proactive about hanging out with people at work.

13. Do more active stuff, sit around goofing off on the computer less.
Hahahaha no.

14. Get a sewing machine, make some decent costumes
No/Yes. Didn't get a sewing machine, but I did make that Tran costume for Sakuracon on Megan's sewing machine. That was fun!

15. Get better at bowling, get arm muscles so I can really use my bowling ball
No. It keeps happening that I go bowling a few weeks in a row and get better, and then stop for a few weeks and get worse, and back and forth. Bleh.

16. Continue working on being a happier, better person, continue to be less bitter and less petty.
Yes? No? I'm not sure..

I just want to start by saying that there is no hostility in this post <3 <3 <3

"Well, by "mastery" I mean... the "highest" level, the level you need to be at in order to be actually considered one of those people who are "good" at the game."

I guess that depends on what you mean by "highest" level. Technically what the highest level would be (depending on your definition) is either a flashing7 another AAA or a flashing7 another double AAA [note that anothers do not necessarily get harder by the given definition of stars, however, flashing7 anothers seem to be an exception].

I consider myself to be "good" only in the surrounding locales. However, when I go to california I am certainly humbled and feel WAY out of my leauge.
