hahahahahahahahahaha

Someone forwarded this article around at work today. It is the funniest shit ever, no joke. They had a bunch of kids play old videogames and comment on them. Hilarity ensued.

EDIT> Dude, I don't care if it's old or stale or not true. The point is that it's fucking funny.

Yeah, that was posted on fark this morning. As they would say: "I call shenanigans." -- There's just no way those kids said those things.

I could follow the grand tradition of the net and say "OMG OLD I READ THAT LAST MONTH LAAAAAAAAAAAAME."

But I won't, not least of which because I *hate* that. I have a free subscription to the EGM dead tree magazine, so I did read it awhile ago.

Hi, we don't know each other, but you're on the Friends list of a coupla of my friends and I see your posts from time to time. I just had to say that that was the funniest goddamned thing I've read in a long time :) And E.T.!!! Hot shit, the memories!! Lord knows how many years it's been since I played that, *smile*

Kids really have to have violence to like games, it seems. "This game sucks, because you can't shoot people in it." They've missed out on so much.

It's funny, and I feel sorry for those kids. And how they skew the sales charts so that it looks like real gamers actually play Madden 'xy. Whee.

Went around my place as well. I can't believe they hadn't played Tetris before! I mean it's on every platform!

Gah. Sorry. :/

(Maybe I should drop English and just take up another language entirely...)

John: Why haven't I won yet? I've paired up so many of the same color.
EGM: Don't worry about colors.
John: I just lined up six of the same color. Why didn't they blow up?
EGM: Nothing blows up.

And running through my head is the phrase, "It's a gazebo, Eric."

How many people get shot in the Madden games?

[identity profile] shalifi.livejournal.com 2003-10-17 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's kids, I think it's any serious gamer.

Violence makes games better, in my opinion. I don't understand how people play racing games where you can't shoot at other cars. If I wanted to drive, I'd go hop in my damn car. Games shouldn't simulate real life events that you could do if you weren't lazy. They should provide fantasy that you can't get in real life.

[identity profile] kawaru.livejournal.com 2003-10-17 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
No one. But the point was that kids don't appreciate good games, and if they would quit buying Mortal Kombat and the same recycled sports games over and over, and choosing a piece of crap because it has better graphics than a good game with mediocre graphics, the world would be a better place. At least that's how I see it.

I should've clarified at first that the Madden thing was a slightly different point.

[identity profile] ssaiscps.livejournal.com 2003-10-18 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I realized you were making a different point, I just thought it was funny how it contradicted your first point.

I think the problem isn't with "kids these days", but rather that video games have become a mass market phenomenon, and thus subject to the same forces that produce pop music (to an extent). Not helping matters is that fact that games have become more expensive to produce, making risky games more risky.

That is soooo last--oh wait, I haven't read it before. Amusing.

>"I call shenanigans."

Was in south park (season 3-4?) so I can semi-believe that.

Still, I don't think the response to Et would have been that biting, unless they saw G4's special on it.
