闘魂一郎
hum, where to start, what to mention...
Not much to say about work, so I won't start there.
Right, so Eli and I went to the Mariners game after work. It was Fan Appreciation Night so we all got team posters when we walked in, although by "poster" I mean a 14" by 18" or so poster with the shot of the team. Well, I can put it up at work or in here maybe. Yeah, so... WE MAULED THE OAKLAND A'S. It was really good. They got a lead on us early on, like the 2nd inning, and we worried about how well Piniero was pitching, but then we started just picking up a billion runs, it was 7-2 when they took out their first pitcher at the middle of the 3rd inning. They eventually went through 6 pitchers... for no apparent reason except to give the guys time on the field. Even John Halama got up there. It was pretty crazy. We just used Piniero for 6 innings and then Mateo got the save for being up there 3 innings (it's not like there was anything to save).
The A's scored early although at least one time it REALLY looked like the throw beat the guy to the plate. And we got on base at least twice from the person not actually being on the bag. Ichiro caught an INSANE ball that totally woulda been a home run if he didn't get there (and I think Cameron did the same, but I forget). Cameron also got a home run. Edgar was something like 2 for 5... it was great because everyone kept getting up to cheer for him each time he went up to bat... his last at bat, the entire stadium was on their feet cheering... and he popped out to shortstop :) And then he got a standing ovation as he left the field. John Olerud got two doubles, a walk, and a fielder's choice... so he was on base 4 out of 5 at bats, although I don't think the FC counts towards OBP. (I was wearing my Olerud 5 shirt, after I debated on which player to go with.) Anyway, it was pretty exciting, we got a bazillion hits and runs and stuff, and there was this crazy Oakland fan sitting about 15 rows in front of us, and people kept throwing peanuts at him and stuff 'cause he kept getting up and yelling random stuff. As he walked out of the stadium with his friends they were like "AMERICAN LEAGUE WEST CHAMPS, YO, SHAME WE WON'T SEE YOU GUYS IN THE PLAYOFFS" or something. I'm surprised nobody slugged him :)
Hm, other people in the stands... there was this crazy loud lady behind me who would not SHUT THE FUCK UP the entire game, and she kept screaming IN MY EAR. GRgrgrgrgrgh. There were also a ton of Japanese people in our section. Two guys and a girl kept taking pictures of each other, and an older couple taking pictures of everything, and then a buncha older women and some children behind us. Two of the women held up a sign that said "闘魂一郎". I could read the last two kanji (ichiro, duh :) but not the first two. Well, I knew the second was spirit or soul or something. So eventually my curiosity finally got the best of me and I turned around like:
私: "すみません!"
女人: "はい?"
私: "*pointing at sign* 読み方は、何でしょうか?"
女人: "は?とうこんいちろう."
私: "あのう。。。もう一度?はい、はい、三番と四番の漢字は「イチロー」と言うんだけど、一番と二番は?"
女人: "ああ、そう。っとーーーっこーーーーん。"
私: "ああ、「とうこん」のよ、はい、分かりました!"
Yeah. Fighting Spirit Ichiro. They never DID get on the screen in the outfield... I think they didn't hold the sign up high enough.
(For anyone wondering, basically I said "Hey, how do you read that?" "toukon ichiro." "err... one more time? i know the last two kanji say 'ichiro' but the first two?" "Oh, ok. *very slowly* touuuuukoooon." "oh, 'toukon'! i see, thanks!")
Oh well, it was a good game. It was very satisfying to beat the A's even if it doesn't *really* matter at this point... it was like the Mariners wanted to give us a good last homestand or something. Yay :) They did all these fan appreciation giveaways and of course I didn't win anything, but still. At the beginning of the game the whole team came out holding signs like "YOU FANS ROCK! THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!" and stuff. I guess I never really remember Fan Appreciation days being that great at the Phillies. I mean... after all... it was the Phillies fans we're talking about here. :)
We came home after the game and I played Puzzle Pirates.
I've jumped crews again. I'm now on the Yo-ho Yoyos. I hope I don't end up wanting to jump crew again, because I've probly pissed off a bunch of people by now with all the crew hopping. Anyway, I had a really good excuse in this case... Spinn, the captain, is a really old friend of mine from Philly BBSes. (WTF, this is like twice this month. First
darknote, now this. At least it's people I'm *not* hiding from now.) Yeah, so that was REALLY cool. I guess there aren't that many people on my friends list who are from the old ddial crew (just
bk3c,
ag5j, and
shandrew, right?) but... well, if any of you are wondering where 049 Night Watchman got to, I found him :) (well, yeah, I found spinnwebe a while back, but I had not actually TALKED to Greg in around 8 years.) It was great, once we were done crewing for the evening, we sat around chatting... he was telling another crew member, "So Janthina's one of my old old friends from BBSing..." I was like "Yeah, I helped Spinn here almost get sued by They Might Be Giants, back in the day!" and then a bit later he asked Stiiv, "so how do YOU pronounce 'sysop'?" Man, that just brought back a flood of memories.
I shoulda known if I logged into one of these things, I'd end up running into someone I knew from a past life :)
I also figured out why I like swordfighting best on there. It's Super Puzzle Fighter with a twist... BUT... it's COOPERATIVE super puzzle fighter. You gang up on the opposite team and rearrange to defend and attack together. It's so cool. Yarrrrrrrr!
The other thing I guess I should note about today is that I was a big idiot. Sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what the impact of my idiocy is. For now I need to sleep more than I need to worry, I guess. Gotta get up early for Heidi and Cory's wedding tomorrow... wow :)
