hey, i am in tokyo

i am at an arcade in ikebukuro
it has a TON of bemani
PNM10, IIDX9, DDR MAX, GF9DM8...
internet terminals...

and this is just a random neighborhood arcade :)

so the flight was mostly ok. i slept for half of it and read and watched The Bread My Sweet for the other half. the food sucked but oh well, it's United.

We got off the plane at 2:30 and I think we got to the Kimi around 6pm, no joke. First there was a billion customs things at the airport (none of it took long individually, just the lines were really long), then riding into town on the Keisei line, took at least an hour and ten minutes, even with the express. It didn't stop at Koiwa but I did get a glimpse of the Sky Court yay. Then another 15 mins on the Yamanote to get to Ikebukuro and another 10 mins walking with our luggage through the streets.

We got there, checked in... then left to wander around. We went into an arcade on a whim and that's where we've spent almost all our indoor time tonight... playing PNM and IIDX, and I did play one round of DDR MAX to play Ghosts and stuff, SSHM and Love Shine are fun and Daikenkai on DM is fun too and woo PNM10. I have a PNM eemall card but I can:t quite figure out what to do with it! It keeps my scores at least.

We looked for the bookoff but didn:t find it, looked for a curry house but didn:t find one... eventually ended up eating in a small kaiten sushi place and then wandering some more and eventually we just ended up back at this arcade. We tried several ATMs looking for one that will give us money but can't find one. I'm ok but DJ didn't take out enough money I think.

It's so cool to be here... I have been speaking ab it of Japanese with people, and some english, and I dunno, whee! Dunno what we're up to tomorrow or any other day... hopefully avoiding jet lag and stuff though. rawr. And this is SO cool to have a super bemani arcade with internet RIGHT near the ryokan.

i dont plan to read my friends page much, so if you really need me, i AM checking my email at hotmail, please feel free to email me there.

I'm curious, how well could you get around if you didn't speak a word of Japanese there?

I'm about to finish a big project at work, and I've already seen all of europe, and I'd like to see Japan for once. I even found a round trip fare for $440, which is insane. But I don't speak a WORD of Japanese, and I wonder if I could get by with english, pattern matching, and creative miming.

You can get around the major cities, especially Tokyo, with no real knowledge of the language. Tokyo is a very international city. If you want to go explore more remote areas of Japan, it's going to be much more difficult.
