volleyball, work, ddr, etc.

Today we had the volleyball finals at work today. My team was in it in the losers bracket. We were playing against a team called Furikake which was half Japanese people and half other people from the internationalization team. One woman kept exclaiming random stuff in Japanese and I really wanted to reply but didn't. So, there were CRAPPY volleyball conditions. First, we were on the crappy court (the one with puddles, random pipe tops, etc. Second, there was a live band playing for the BBQ... right between the two volleyball courts. Ugh. That was awful, not only did I get a horrible headache from spending an hour right in front of a speaker but we couldn't even hear each other playing volleyball... imagine what it'd be like if nobody could say "got it" or "help" or even announce the score and/or service. Ugh.

We won in three games. I don't know what we get though. Some sort of "consolation" prize, I hear, for winning the loser's bracket.

I had some lunch with the guys on the team and then went inside to do work. I ran down to Uwajimaya to go to the bank to buy traveler's checks just in case (they don't do them in Yen though, bleh), too. And then I just stayed in the office and worked on my stuff until I had it done... finally had it done like 6pm. Whew. Everyone had left by then, of course, but I sent it out, and was FREE!

So I went to Gameworks for the Friday night DDR tournament thingy that Gilly has been running. Gilly was running it and Edgars was doing computer stuff, and there was some guy announcing it and a cameraman, so all over Gameworks you could follow the action! A whole bunch of people were there (16 people entered, they were expecting like 10). Keevon and Amber, Steve, Rumi, Tada, Sean, Foy, Max, Okaeshi, etc. And I met some Joe guy who moved up here recently from socal, who was like "yay no bar!" after he saw me play... then I saw him do drop out reverse boost 1.5 etc with Foy and fullcombo it and was like "dude, cool!" He was a nice guy, it's always good to talk to new people. Anyway, so Okaeshi ended up winning overall with Tada placing second, and Keevon and Amber were also in the final four. They had some crazy challenge things like playing HVAM Standard while answering questions about things they'd read up on a few minutes beforehand. I qualified 9th of course, and only the top 8 advanced to the next round. Blargh, I got like 26 non-perfects on Mobo Moga standard and I was allowed to do a second song, so I did Dr. Love standard because Gilly was sad that nobody had done it :) I got 15 non-perfects and that meant I had 92.06% perfects to Max's 8th place 92.95% perfects or something. RAWR!

Uh, so anyway, I lent Amber my duck scrunchie, and I hung out with Edgars a lot, and I watched some matches and played some DDR USA and eventually everyone left and Edgars gave me a ride home. Yay. We stopped for food at Dick's Drive-In because I was starving. Now I am home and I think I will go downstairs and do something relaxing.

So they didn't have a final round where the winner of the losers' list plays the winner of the winners' list (at a disadvantage)? Odd.

Have a good trip!
