Last night I plugged in my Sega Genesis for the first time in a while, at least since we moved into this apartment in July/August. Surprisingly, it worked perfectly, and I played Gunstar Heroes for like half an hour. (You have to understand, my Nintendo and Super Nintendo don't work nearly as flawlessly as this did) I love that game so much... if you haven't played it, it's basically a side-scrolling shoot-em-up game. The cool part is that you have all of these different guns, and the different combination of guns/ammo makes you shoot different stuff, and it is way cool. You can also pick up and throw the bad guys (and the good guys, if you're in certain levels). It's just a lot of fun.
The only TV connector I had for my Genesis is coax, though, which sucks because all of my other stuff is RCA and I feed it through a big RCA switch into my VCR, which feeds audio out to the stereo and video out to the TV. So I'd put the VCR on "line input" to get the sega coax. Then for some reason I could not switch it back to the RCA feed. I don't know what the heck happened. After 15 minutes of playing with it I got it to work, but you know, I have no idea what the hell I did. *That* is frustrating. Despite that I'd love to play Gunstar Heroes with someone else, I'm worried about connecting the Genesis at the party tonight because I don't want to inadvertantly put an end to using the rest of my consoles.
(Side note: There's not enough room in the entertainment center for the Genesis, so it's sitting on top of the Nintendo. I have six consoles out now. And today the copies of Space Channel 5 and Chu Chu Rocket I won off ebay arrived... they are "pre-played" and look quite a bit scratched, but I think they'll probably play okay. I'll have to try them out when I get home.)
So, I did laundry and swept up the apartment and took out a lot of trash and stuff. I didn't clean up our bedroom though, but that shouldn't become an issue. I just hope people show up to the party, because it started snowing here this morning. Damnit, only in Pittsburgh do you go out one morning into beautiful sunny 60+ degree weather and the next morning into 20 degrees and snowing. Bleargh.
My brother shows up tomorrow night. I have to figure out how we'll entertain him all weekend. He saw Harry Potter already. Anyone in Pittsburgh who has some good ideas for stuff to do, it'd be appreciated. (He's a year and a half younger than me.) It'd be cool to get some people together for board games, maybe.
Oh, and this morning my coworker who took the JLPT brought in his books for me! Unfortunately, it turns out he has all of the books for the 2-kyuu (the one Carl is taking), not the 3-kyuu (the one I am taking). On the other hand, one book is basically a sample-questions-book, to show you the format of the test, and I think the format is the same for both of ours, just that his requires knowing more words and stuff. So I can still study from it, if I try not to let myself feel too overwhelmed. Bleh, and we still have to figure out what we're doing and where we're staying for the trip. Anyone know any good places in the city (NYC) to stay? We're taking the test at Columbia University.
Well, so anyway, happy 20 November! Go forth and play Beatmania or DDR tonight if you can, or other video games if you can't.

brother:
Have you been to the Science center recently? Check out the Imax movies. There was a Cirque du Soleil one that was good, and a Simpsons one that i haven't seen. Also, if you haven't been there in a while, its not a bad place to spend an afternoon.
NYC:
I know people in NYC, which is where i would stay, but i don't know if you know any of them. (A bunch of architorture people from my year, Peter Kanning, J Cohen, Rolf Neill? oh, and lots of people from CT who i'm *sure* you wouldn't know.) Whatever you do, stay on the downtown side of Columbia. Now, what test is this?
Party on Tuesday:
Sounds like fun. We have role-playing on Mondays (Wednesdays last year), its alright as long as you can start at a decent time (since we're all old and committed to a job).
