When the going gets sunburned, the sunburned go shopping
Yesterday:
Woke up early to go out to Redmond to go to Ann and Jacob's place for volleyball and swimming.
So we got there a little late, like 11:30ish. People were already out there playing volleyball... pretty much my entire volleyball team from Amazon showed up, plus a few people! We had Ami and his wife, Brett who I'd never met, Scott, Matt, Jason, Ann and Jacob, me and Eli, and one of Ann's neighbors. We played a whole bunch of volleyball for a while, then came in to drink Gatorade and water and sat around talking. People were like "You're documenting [the website platform]? You are going to have a huge fan club when you're done..." Anyway, we went out and played more vball - I tried playing barefoot but the sand was too hot, then I did socks and it was still pretty hot. After a game or two we gave up and almost everyone went home... so Eli and me and Ann and Jacob ended up going swimming in Lake Sammamish. It was kinda scary for me because I don't swim much anymore and there was no lifeguard and we jumped off a dock so it was all deep and whatnot, but I had fun after a while, and then we sat on the dock talking for a while. And then it was like 2:30pm and we were all hungry, so we headed home.
Eli and I got food at Red Mill for lunch and it was really good, and we hung out at home for a little, and then I headed up to Kenmore to see what was up with the DDR tournament.
What was up was that at 5pm when I got there the tournament had just ended. I saw a few people who were still hanging out there, and Jedi showed me the cute trophy he won, and I talked to Shakespeare and Keevon a little, and Amber and Charlie, but that was about it. I guess because it was mostly single elimination, the tournament didn't take very long, and only 21 people entered for 16 spots, etc. Jedi won, Keevon second, Shakespeare third, Amber fourth. I had come up intending to find people to hang out with, but they all apparently had plans to do things, and I'm not much for inviting myself along places anymore, so I decided to leave.
Well, Eli was over at Wim and Kylee's and then going to a party later, so I was alone for the day at 5:30pm. I debated calling people up, but then decided I'd rather go shopping. In order the rest of the day had me going from Kenmore to Central Market, home, Gary's Games, Leilani Lanes (to check out their new DDR machine), Best Buy, home, Sushi Express, and Half Price Books.
Central Market: You know, you'd think getting there from Kenmore wouldn't be that tough since it's up at 155th and Aurora and Kenmore's a bit north of that, but I had a heck of a time finding my way from Lake City Way to 155th and Aurora. In the future now I know to take rt. 523 or 527 or whatever they call 145th street at that point. Anyway, I looked for Eli's wheatnuts or whatever the things are at CM, but didn't find them. Did get random groceries and drinks and stuff, including some fruit salad. Yay.
Stopped home to put away the milk and stuff. Nobody was really online so I went right back out.
Gary's Games: OMG, I hadn't been to a game store in way too long. I only blew like $110 there, it could have been much worse if I'd decided to actually pick up the D&D 3.5 books but I think I'm going to order them off Amazon instead so I get a tiny discount. Anyway, I bought Carcassonne Hunters&Gatherers, Mamma Mia, Bohnanza, Citadels, Lost Cities, and a birthday present for Charlie. I suppose I'll edit in exactly what, later.
Leilani Lanes: Well, I was already heading north on Greenwood intending to go to Best Buy, so I hit 100th and went "OH RIGHT!" I stopped in. Sure 'nuff, they do have a DDR machine there now. It's in their miniscule arcade and it appears to be some upgraded bootleg Extreme, it's fully unlocked, and has no pads on the bars. The sensors/pads/whatever seemed fine though - I played one set, it's 75 cents for 5 songs just like Sunset, but the screen is brighter. Got my normal range of scores on most songs, despite being an aching mess from volleyball, and had many random onlookers going "WHOA! HOW COOL!" So yeah. DDR machine at Leilani. Yay for machines 5 mins from my house.
Best Buy: My original intention was to maybe pick up a GBA-SP, but then I decided not to for some reason. I'm still waffling on it, I don't know how much I'd actually use one if I got one is the thing... there aren't any games for it that I *really really really* want although I kinda do want the Zelda game and one of the Super Mario ones and the Pokemon Puzzle one if I could just ever find it, grr. So we'll see. I did end up buying Simcity 4K at long last, and SSX Tricky, and a DVD remote control thingy for the PS2. Whee.
Came home with all my stuff... but I was hungry AND it was too fucking hot upstairs to play SimCity. I ended up talking to Nykkel for a while online, and then headed back out to get food because I was hungry. Ended up going to Sushi Express alone, which isn't all that bad a thing really... I sat around watching the sushi train. I ate a LOT of sushi though. 10 plates worth, and it ended up costing me like $20. It was pretty good though and the sushi chef kept actually asking me what I wanted and recommending things and whatnot... it was a sort of slow night I guess. I really like their California rolls.
Decided to stop by Half Price Books because I was in the neighborhood. Picked up two movies and two books. Both are duck books. They're precious. One is called "Rhymes with Duck". No, it's not what you're thinking.
Came home, Eli was still out, it was still too hot in the house and I am all sunburned horribly, so I felt too sick and tired to do anything at all. Threw some laundry in the machine and settled down to watch School Ties, which was okay, I guess. It was mostly interesting to remember what a lot of those actors (Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris O'Donnell, Brendan Fraser, Tony Rapp, etc) were like 10+ years ago. I thought the plot was stupid but the acting was pretty good all things considered. And I ate my fruit salad and you know, there's nothing like cold fruit salad on a hot summer evening.
So that was yesterday. I'm sunburned a lot. I slept like 13 hours because I fell over around 12:30am and just slept, which is why I didn't write this yesterday. Today I'm going to go to work for a few hours and then go to a party in Bellevue. I hope I can stay awake for it though. Whee.
