work, IZ, whatnot

Hate commutes. Whee. Had lunch and played pingpong with the group, that was fun. Worked straight through until like 7pm. (There was some free food outside the AV rooms and I was like "STOCK THE FRIDGE, YO!" so I stole a ton of soda.) Came home. Hung out with Eli for a bit. Went to IZ with rkane, where we also ran into daviticus and some other CMU folks, who camped on the DrumMania machine for the whole night. Oddly, Jacob and Ann showed up, which was the first time I'd seen Jacob in a year, but I didn't really have time to talk to them because I was caught up in IZzing. Jeremy and Tony showed up again and they were fun to talk to as usual. If anyone's going to the Fremont parade tomorrow, go check out Jeremy's band (Uglier Than You, a ska/etc band), I think they're on right after the parade. Tada was there for a bit, and Hyunsuk and his wife (I accidentally got my head in front of the screen putting my card up and H got REALLY pissed at me and threw my card behind the DDR machine later). Laura and Charlie were around too. Haha, I got them to play Pop'n'Music with me - the machine was skipping so we did Anothers and split the keys 3-3-3. It was really fun. Sadly, KBM was having a heck of an evening... it kept crashing. So Charlie left early, which was a shame 'cause he's cool, yo. But on the other hand Max showed up, and Foy, and Keevon, and Allan, and whatnot.

My stomach started feeling really sick after like... 2 or 3 sets of DDR for me. It sucked because I only got 3 more AA's... I've only got like a week left to get 11 more if I want to hit 100 by July 4th. Sigh. Hopefully I can play tomorrow a little after the Edit Tournament. Anyway, so I spent a buncha time on PPP for once, and a buncha time on PNM convincing other people to play with me and I managed to squeeze in one game of KBM while it was up at the end. I made Keevon play To the 44883 and Frozen Ray (the irony being what would happen if it froze on frozen ray) with me (and a game of PNM too! yay keevon). After IZ we all stood outside for a while and I ended up going to Denny's with Foy, Keevon, George, Max, and Allan. I felt a little bad ditching Mark but on the other hand he seemed to be fine with going to Redmond to play Magic, so... rawr. Sometime I have to drag those guys to Narrows so they can see GF9/DM8. I was really sad that we didn't get any Super Session in tonight, either. Grrr.

Sometimes I have the worst time reading people. Ugh.

Anyway all in all it was a good day. Tomorrow is the edit tournament at Narrows and I hope it goes well, Farren's been working on it since February (which I know, since I've been helping him). It's an exciting new thing here, but it's unclear how many of the tourney regulars are going to come out for it.

i've been trying to find a m:tg group up here since i mvoed, have yet to find one. X_x
granted, most of my collection is revised-weatherlight... but i can get some type-2 cards if need be. ^_^

I've played casually since Fallen Empires, with my buying only recently picking up since one of my friends got hooked over spring break :).

If/when we get together to play we could give you a hollar if you're interested. However, both myself and the other guy (which is almost the entirity of our "group") are just interns here for the summer, so unfortunately we can't be a permanent group for you (unless we come back to work-fulltime next year or something).

it's ok, if the machine at IZ continues to stay busted forever, there's no way he'll get better than you at PNM :) And you have access to a billion of them in Japan...

That's why I ALWAYS wait for someone to finish a song before I put a card up in line. You never know when someone will get pissed because you disturbed them while they were trying to play a song.

I've had people put tokens on IIDX while I'm playing by reaching over in front of the screen, blocking the notes for 4 or 5 seconds while I'm on hard mode and causing me to fail. Then they expect me to let them take their turn.

At Playdium in Vancouver it's apparently standard operating practice to swipe in credits while others are playing.

However, since the screen is 9 feet tall and at least 10 feet in front of you, your eyes are elevated anyway.

I know, I almost always do (and even when I don't, I'd had a 100% record so far of not getting in the way, I'm usually REALLY good at that). I was just excited because 1) it was my first time at IZ in 2-3 weeks and 2) it was my first time playing DDR for over a week. Still, I had to go look for my card for like 20 minutes, I was convinced he'd thrown it out... So I guess we're even. But I was really embarrassed and kicking myself about it for the rest of the night (I mean, I got home and I was still thinking about it, obviously, if I posted it).
