WOTC, IZ, Bapplees, Kenmore
Today I drove to work, parked at the $4 lot. I found out where I'm getting moved to; upstairs a few cubes down from where
pauldf used to sit. The upside: window. The downside: cube. Also no more Donkey Kong nearby and no intranet tech guys :( Well, we shall see what happens, I guess.
It is May. Things change so quickly and yet so slowly... a month ago was the week between DM5 and Sakuracon. A year ago, I wrote an entry going "I think I should start looking for a job before I get too depressed being unemployed." I also wrote about how Nick and I were going to start being regular bridge partners. And I was working on getting my driver's license, and was obsessed with Seafarers and Tigris, and my non-DDR Bemani playing was basically mostly at IMSO meetings. Weird. Life has DEFINITELY changed in the past year. And even in the past month. I dunno. I get really introspective about this crap around my birthday... trying to figure out how far I've come since N birthdays ago, and where I think I'll be in N birthdays in the future. God, 26 just seems so old. I think mentally I still see myself as 22 or 23...
I am, at least, glad I write a ton of shit on here. It might suck because it discourages people from actually reading anything I write, but as far as I care, it is SO cool to be able to go back and read an entry and close my eyes and just replay whole scenes of my life in my head... ("forever flicker in closeup on the 3D IMAX of my mind? THAT's poetic... that's pathetic!")
ANYWAY, today after work. I left a little later than planned, which turned out okay because traffic was a little better. I went to Bellevue Square first, to the WOTC store because I was under the impression they were having a big big store closing sale. Turns out in reality they were having a big sale except it was all on crap. I ended up buying two books (Reverse Dungeon and The Munchkin's Guide to Power Gaming) and two glow-in-the-dark ducks (glow-in-the-ducks!). The books were 75% off. Turns out I have Reverse Dungeon already. Anyone want a copy?
Drove to IZ from Bellevue. It didn't take too long. A couple people were there, like Laura and Tada and Farren and Kiefer. Others showed up at random points, like Keevon showed up shortly after me, and Edgars a bit after that, and even
aquatwo was there at one point! (I suck, I should have asked if you wanted a ride, but I knew I was going to be doing WOTC and all) I asked Kiefer and Keevon to session with me and after that we got in a super session with Edgars and Farren as well. It was cool, I got to be drums :) I played a ton of PNM, it's my new favorite game :) I sucked it up at DDR for the most part, although I did get to play a set with Keevon and he let me pick a song so I picked Be Lovin', having never played it before, and did relatively well! Yay! Then we got Remember You as an extra stage, so I decided to bar rape it as a joke and he didn't use the bar. I guess that's yet another way the Extra Stage was in reverse, huh? :)
We left pretty early to go to Applebee's... like 9:15ish. So I had less than 2 hours at IZ. Doh! Anyway, Keevon and Edgars and I went, and I went the reverse way out of the parking lot and lost them... but figured I'd see what would happen if I drove off of 405 to Bel-Red to make up time. Oddly enough I got there at EXACTLY the same time as Keevon, I even was following him on Bel-Red like "whoa, a red truck with a Buu-looking thing dangling in the back... THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" We met up with Rumi, Matt, Michele, and Steve there. They'd already eaten some food, so we all ordered food and stuff and sat around talking and all. Everyone was telling stories about ducklings getting squished so I was all sad. I think some stuff was going on with Michele's shoes but to be honest I was too preoccupied eating to pay attention. Somehow the subject of going to Kenmore came up and I decided to be rude and invite myself along...
...so after Applebee's, Keevon followed me back to Steve's place, and we went in to get directions to Kenmore. (Hahaha, Kevin only hangs out with me because I have a cellphone. :P ) I got to talk to DJ! He's going to both TMBG shows next week, so I'm debating whether I should find out about going to both as well. Though I think that REALLY will overload my head (sorry,
zaph, I know, if you were here you wouldn't even THINK about it before just going to both). But it was exciting to talk to someone out here besides Josh who's also excited about the shows. And while talking to DJ, Foy showed up! <airhead>So like I was like OMG it's Foy and I ran up to him and hugged him like HIHI! ITS YOU!</airhead> Seriously, though, he was like "Why is everyone acting so weird lately?" Aaaanyway... we hit the road and went up to Bothell, Keevon driving Steve and me following. Kenmore's not that hard to find from the east...
...so, we met up with Charlie and Tanya, who were playing pool. And then we played a ton of DDR. As usual it was exciting to watch everyone, and to play. I really need to work on stamina. I decided to play CSFILSM on a whim, and I only had 4 non-combo steps, which was fucking AMAZING for me. Everyone else was of course SDGing random stuff, and Steve was kicking serious ass on double heavy, I mean he was AA'ing everything he played, and it wasn't easy stuff, either! Steve and Tanya played all Random against each other one round and were totally tying on all these songs, it was really funny. Anyway. Hung out until 12:30 and then drove home. Wow, it's late. I should go sleep.
Wait, I wanted to mention one more thing. I know I have an attitude problem about DDR sometimes, and I'm working on that. But I wanted to say that some people have been incredibly encouraging and supportive and helpful with DDR tips... Keevon and Tanya specifically today, and James, and Maple, and I-Gene, and yes even Laura, and, well, everyone. Yay. ♥ the Seattle Bemani community.
