Bemani Local Road Trip

Today was a great day. Well, after 6pm at least :)

Work today wasn't so bad, we had an interview loop going, and I sent out a draft of my project, but I feel like it totally sucks, so I walked out of work like "omg omfg I suck I suck I suck", and got into the car with Edgars, and off we went to tour random northern Bemani locations.

So our first destination was Funtasia Family Fun Park up in Edmonds. Well, except that about 5 minutes up I-5, Edgars turns to me like "So how do we get there, anyway?" and I'm like "WTF? I thought you knew how to get there." "Uh, shit." So we drive up to Edmonds and get off the highway and kinda drive around for a bit. I tried calling Minwiz and Tanya and some other people, but got no answer. Eventually we end up in some residential neighborhood near the water... and Edgars gets out his laptop, puts in his network card, and we start scanning for wireless networks... and BOOM! We find one, park, leech the connection, and load up the DDRFreak website and find the page for Funtasia. Turns out we were actually relatively close by, heh.

But you have to understand how totally geeky and funny it was to, rather than call information, or call around more friends, or find a phone booth, etc... to leech network and go look it up online. Heh.

So anyway, we went to Funtasia, where we ran into Ray. They now have MAX2, Disney's Rave, Keyboard Heaven (the Korean KBM1), Percussion Freaks (Korean Drummania), Dance Freaks (Korean DMX), and Beatmania 6th UK Underground. Sweet. They also had tons of other random cool games like Tsurugi and Capcom vs SNK and whatnot (a game called Quack Attack. I am not kidding), but the Bemani is what I came there for. Anyway, before you ask, I FINALLY FINALLY PASSED NEARLY 130! (89.0% if you care) GO ME AND MY FIRST EVER ONI COURSE! I guess I hadn't been on a MAX2 in almost 5 months, y'know?

We also ran into Mwinzi and Nykkel! Mwinzi did a whole bunch of Oni courses on the MAX2, and we played Beatmania, and KBM, and stuff, and it was good to see him since I never ever do. And Nykkel showed up while I was trying Nearly 130 my second time... so I knew Edgars was standing behind me talking to someone but I thought it was Ray... and I failed Higher on the LAST JUMP... fell down, yelled "FUCK!" and turned around and there was Nykkel and I was like "UHHHH HI!!!" And of course the very next thing he does is get up and pass Nearly 130 :) Somehow he always shows up when I'm doing stupid things. Anyway, the bunch of us hung out on the other Bemani, and some other assorted games, and it was so very cool to hang out with everyone! Yeah, I guess I hadn't seen Nykkel or Mwinzi since DM5. Wacky. I should go up north to hang out with them more often :)

Anyway, after an hour or 3, Tanya called Edgars and we decided to go to Kenmore Lanes to check out their DDR Extreme machine. So Edgars and Ray and I start driving there, and then get diverted to a Denny's, where we met up with Charlie and Tanya. (Nyk and Mwin both went home when we left Funtasia.) That was fun, we ate food and sat around being silly. And we gotta plan stuff for B3... ugh... but that's another story. Hopefully tomorrow night some more of us will get together to talk about it. ANYWAY, after Denny's, we went to Kenmore. It has an EX machine with memcard slots, a PIU Premiere, and no other Bemani, but it did have an Attack From Mars pinball machine (and I can still get replays on it pretty easily), and an Arabian Nights! (The pin I always played at BVM between DDR sets.) It also had an employee who posts to the DDR BBS and he kept bringing us pitchers of water, which was cool of him. Oh, and Ryan who lives near UW and used to play at IZ was there! He's gotten SO MUCH BETTER AT DDR SINCE LAST I SAW HIM! Anyway, so we played a buncha games, which, let me tell you, was really fun right after eating Denny's food. I played a game with Ray and a game with the employee dude. Charlie and Edgars played a metric ton of Maxx Unlimited. Charlie AA'ed it on his final try! It was way cool! 71/1/1/0 (I forget the # of perfects). How exciting for him :)

Anyway, after that it was like 1am AND we were all exhausted so we headed home. Whee! Oh yeah, and Ray knows everyone in Bothell, it's kinda scary.

So, I would totally go back to Funtasia. I also kind of want to check out the MAX2 at Lanwerx sometime, and the Brunswick Majestic machine that Nykkel mentioned, and wherever. It's kinda exciting to play in different locations and all. And I still have to see the BM3 at Narrows eventually...

Oh yes. Of course, in three years' time, wardriving will be the rule with exceptions to it.

"But you have to understand how totally geeky and funny it was "

OMG that's totally classic ^_^

I don't have a car, so if I get a WiFi card for my PocketPc, I guess I could go War... uhhh.... WarWalking. Yeah.
