games make me happy

Sometimes I have these days where I start doing random Para moves in the hallway at work when I think nobody's looking and then, shit, someone comes down the hall and if I don't know them I pretend to be stretching, and if I do know them I pretend to be waving. It's so funny.

I finished up the thingy I was working on and sent it to my boss and went home and a bit later Josh and Megan picked me up and we went up north to Justin and Colleen's house. Their house is neato! They have two dogs, that are both big and friendly and cute, and they have a pool table, and a lot of remnants of obvious bad 70's decor. Justin made dinner, it was this wacky stuffed-steak thing, and veggies and garlic bread, and then Megan and Colleen hung out all evening, while Josh and Justin and I played board games. (At least three times during the evening the comment was made that I had obviously somehow inadvertantly become male.)

First we played Die Siedler Von Nurenberg, which is a weird combination of normal Siedler and Stadteundritter, which I hadn't played before. You have the normal hexes, and then there's this city, and the roads are all wacky, and... actually, I kind of like it, I think it's neat, but Justin won too quickly, so I didn't really get to see how my planning played out. He didn't really intend to win so quickly, but he got 4 VP's suddenly for having 3 prestige points, and... whee. It was still interesting, hopefully we'll play a 4-player game again sometime.

After that we deliberated over playing either Tigris or Starfarers, and Starfarers won out, probly 'cause we've played it so recently and it was fun. I kind of got shafted a bit by the dice and by my first encounter, and Justin won this game too, 15-13-11. Somehow I managed to also have more blaster guns than anyone else, but I didn't get to beat up on nearly enough space pirates to make it worth it. It was still fun to play stuff.

We hung out for a while after. Justin was going around the house looking for something of Colleen's that he lost when he cleaned the house today. Oops. He's going to be so toast if he doesn't find it. Josh and I played two games of pool, did I mention they just got a pool table? I actually did pretty well considering how much I suck, he won the first game and I won the second. I should try to learn to play pool...

Anyway, the weekend looks to be interesting, I'm going to see lots of old friends, and the good part is that any downtime I have, I need to sew anyway, so I'm pretty set.

We have this huge mirror in the bathroom at my office, and sometimes if I'm going to the bathroom after hearing a PPP/Eurobeat song on my mp3 player, I'll do some para moves in the mirror. But the mirror is right by the door. And sometimes people will come in and look... really confused. So I feel your pain.

OMG!

I thought I was the only person who did such things! It's great to know I'm not completely insane. If ever caught, I usaully just run and hide without saying a word.

I once managed to get into a position in Settlers of Nuremberg from which I couldn't possibly win, even if I built every possible road, upgrade, card and so forth available. Wasn't that taken by it.

Settlers of the Stone Age is pretty good and Settlers of Caanan is very respectable too - I find both to be "not much worse than the original". :-) So many variants!

Have fun!
