Fred McFeely Rogers (1928-2003), RIP

I guess the Pittsburgh people know what I mean about having actually literally lived in Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. I was never cool enough to talk to him or get a picture or as lucky as Steph to have Mr. McFeely come in to a class of mine or anything, but still, anyone who lives/lived around CMU knows what I mean about Mr. Rogers being our sort of local celebrity, even as a freshman you see people point to this one apartment building near campus like "Hey that's where Mr. Rogers lives!"

sigh. Well, at least he led a long and fulfilling life.

Yes, it's sad the Mr. Rogers is gone. He will be missed. May his reruns continue to educate and entertain children for many years.

I had the pleasure of interviewing David Newell (Mr. McFeely) for WRCT. Strangely enough, it was the very same day that Dr. Ruth Westheimer gave a lecture on campus. (Both in the old Skibo Hall!)

I think the day Mr. McFeely came in was my favorite day of classes ever. It was total surprise and that just made it so cool.

I'm sad that hes gone, and like a lot of others have said, this touches me more than the nightclub fire or the Columbia explosion.
