team tourney and bemani party afterwards

I'm too burned out and tired to write much right now (jesus, 5am). So this is just a placeholder to remember to write more about today - the Team Tournament at Narrows, and my party afterwards. The tournament was really cool except for the smoke. I got to sit and do math for 7 hours! I know people must think I'm insane, but somehow working out scores for 7 hours was actually really enjoyable. I got to sit at the admin table with Steve, maybe that's why. ;) No, seriously, it was cool because it was a good excuse to say hi to people I didn't know very well, and a lot of people come by to talk to you at the admin table. And I think Bill finally knows who I am. I *really* enjoyed my first real chance to be an admin at a DDR tournament, and even if it was a lot of work, I was so happy to have the chance to do that. I really loved it, I hope Nykkel lets me help out similarly with Dance Magic 5. Steve, you should put in a good word for me, okay? :)

Highlights:
- Team We Will Rock You actually beating Team Seattle in the first round
- Dylan getting a Heavy AAA on Love Love Sugar while practicing
- I wrote "Paronia KCET Clean" on the card sign partially in Foy's honor and partially because I honestly couldn't remember how to spell Paranoia.
- Lots of insanely good scores on songs, I was really impressed with a lot of people.
- Yelling out every time cool numbers came up for scores.. "Hey another 511! Ooh, a 573! Hey, Keevon's score on this is 666!" and so on :)
- "Steve, why on earth do you want Foy to play On the Jazz and El Ritmo Tropical? That's just MEAN!" (And of course Foy picked the card with V Oni and got 18 greats, leaving Charlie to do the crappy Ska-a-go-go card.)
- Singing along to DrumMania songs all day since the table was by the DM machine
- Lith's 365/5/0/0/0 on Afronova... and James failing it. Poor James, it was kind of like when Tanya tripped on Senorita - I remember the Keevon and Tanya cards coming in and I saw 8 misses on Tanya's Senorita and was like "Uh, we need to check this score out... WTF? 8 misses? Tanya got only 3 greats the other day."
- Listening to Miracle Moon and other songs I like, over and over
- Amber drawing lots of hearts and stuff on her scorecards and writing "quack!" and "hi deanna! hi steve!" and stuff.
- Feeling like a big math nerd for being able to point out all the discrepancies in the judging ("Yo, they reported 219 steps for this song but it only has 214.") Also feeling like a big idiot for the 2-3 times I screwed up and had to recalculate stuff. But overall I think the system worked pretty well, having 2-3 people's eyes on each set of numbers.
- Seeing lots and lots of cool people, putting some new faces to names for the random Tacoma/Seatac players.
- Smiling a lot. Except towards the end when my brain was melting, I was surprised that I didn't have to make any extra effort to be chipper and friendly towards everyone... but I was even going "Thank you!" to the judges for scorecards, and being encouraging towards everyone that stopped by the table, and it felt good to be in the middle of it all and to feel useful.
- Rayna's nicknames for Steve every time she came up to the table with scores. "Here you go, pumpkin!" "Here's some more scores, cupcake!"

Results:
1. Team Seattle (Foy, Lith, Tanya, Robert, and Charlie) - 496
2. Team WWRY (Keevon, Jerrad, Tada, Tyler, Shiguma) - 452
3. Team Wenis (Jeff, Dianna, Jedi, Darren, Dyaus) - 426
4. Team Mattitude (Fuj, Cory, Crackoon, Laura, Becky) - 339
5. Team Arc (Dylan, Max, Dan, Carl, and Karl) - 265
6. Team Pink Snails (Aaron Basket and some other people) - 195
7. Team Pozers (Trunks, BemaniFreak, Vannila Ice, Pixxiy, and some other guy) - 127
8. Team D Xtreme (that relatively new team) - 122
9. Team Be For U (apparently an offshoot of D-Xtreme) - 18
10. Team Tarantula (apparently an offshoot of Pink Snails) - 12

I fully admit that I really don't know most of the people on a lot of the DDR teams from the Tacoma/Seatac/etc areas, but being at the table meant I got to talk to a bunch of them, and they were all nice people, except having to track down Team Tarantula to get them to actually pay for their entry fees. I felt kind of bad because they did pretty poorly, but it's not like they could just show up and play free DDR.

And of course, the REAL winner of the tournament was:
0. Team Admin (Steve, Amber, Rayna, Allan, Farren, me, and DJ) - 573

Steve did a great job running things, and daaaaamn, Amber and Rayna and Allan and Farren were on their feet ALL DAY as judges. And DJ just volunteered out of nowhere to help us with random stuff, which rocked. I just had to sit there and be a math slave girl.

Fuj drove us all (me, Amber, Crackoon, Cory) up here afterwards, with Dylan and Rayna following. They went for food (I honestly had like no food for this party... there was mostly just a TON of donuts, the Timbits from Fuj and the Entemann's donuts from Farren, and then Nykkel was nice enough to get some soda and munchies), and in the meantime I set up the party and a buncha people showed up, and there were LOTS of games, oddly IIDX stayed in the living room the whole time and SSBM in the dining room, the basement was used for Apples to Apples and then for SNES games like Kart and Bomberman. I whomped EVERYONE at bomberman. I even did well as Pikachu at Super Smash Button Mashing. We sang happy birthday to Aaron at midnight. Lots of people were here, umm off the top of my head, Keevon, Allan, Farren, Fuj, Cory, Amber, Rayna, Dylan, Laura, Tanya, Charlie, Ray, Joelle, Stephen, Jeff, Dianna, Meghan, Darren, Dyaus, Kiefer, Eiji, Eiji's friend who also rocked the IIDX, Slant, Zor, DJ, Foy, Jerrad, Nykkel, Crackoon, CorranFox, Max, Steve, Aaron... maybe that's it. There was a lot of Hamtaro action, and Amber's moose has been stolen again, but it's not my fault, and I had an AWESOME time playing IIDX with Crackoon and Keevon, I took the black keys and Crackoon took the right 3 white keys and Keevon took the scratch pad and left white key and we ALMOST but not quite beat Eiji's friend at some songs, but we passed lots of stuff like Sync Another and Y31 Another and stuff like that, it was fucking awesome, almost as much fun as playing Pop'n'Music with someone else :) SESSION! I kind of want to invite the UW people over to play IIDX sometime, or go there and play, or something. I ran Bemani charades like the PGSS version with the bag of words you put stuff into, it went over ok but Nykkel didn't seem to have a good time and it dissolved when we went upstairs to sing happy birthday to Aaron. Stuff went until around 4 I guess, with Fuj and Cory and me and Keevon and Allan sitting around playing the IIDX, eventually I kicked everyone out.

Seriously, I didn't take any pictures this time, I was too apathetic, it's kind of a shame. But eh, Kiefer and others did, maybe they'll be posted somewhere.

Oh yeah: What happened to Amber's Moose. :)

Maybe I will edit this post with more details later or just add it to my next post. I'm not sure. Seriously, it was a FABULOUS day, I had such a fantastic time. To anyone reading this in the Seattle Bemani scene who was around, thanks for being awesome.
