So my dad died 5 years ago yesterday, and what's weird is, I remember that at the time I wrote about everything here on LJ, but my instinct yesterday to commemorate was to change my FB picture to be one with me and my dad and to write about it there.
Oddly, I don't even think my dad ever had a FB account? He did have an LJ account and I had a no-Dad filter here (well... it's really the filter of "I friended you, but I don't really know you, so didn't want you to see my REAL friends-locked thoughts").
Anyway, the biggest thing I thought about this year was how much my dad would have loved to get a tour of Google and how proud he'd be of me working there (and that I started working there on what would have been his 70th birthday). Sucks that I can't do that. But I also wouldn't be at Google now without the childhood I had of CODE ALL THE THINGS! so I guess it really does work out.
I had a pretty good weekend all things considered -- walked 7 miles through GGP with a friend on Saturday, went to a birthday party Saturday night, walked another 4 miles through the city with other friends on Sunday, then skipped the boardgames party I was invited to on Sunday afternoon/evening because I was exhausted. I like being exhausted in that aspect. Legs still hurt though, and tonight is ballroom dance class :)
