This sucks. I woke up this morning with a ton of pain in my right shoulder. I do not want to be in Puzzle Hunt this way. I'm not sure exactly what I did to it, maybe slept on it wrong (I woke up halfway through the night because it hurt too).

As for yesterday, after the dentist appointment I was supposed to hang out with some friends but that didn't work out (I'm not sure who was supposed to call who and then I tried to call and couldn't get through, things like that). So eventually I took a bus downtown to meet up with Brian (I think I have too many friends named Brian who work at Microsoft, although this is the one from CMU who crashed at my place in Japan for a few days last November).

Brian had made reservations at a place called El Gaucho, which is apparently not a Mexican restaurant (which I did already know, but still felt like making the joke). It's also insanely fancy -- the waitstaff all wear tuxedoes and whatnot. I had no idea, and had just gotten off a bus in Belltown, where I was immediately asked for money by a homeless guy and then another scary guy followed me around asking if I was lost because I couldn't find the restaurant, which is in a completely nondescript black building on the outside. So I went inside and was kind of like "Am I in the right place?" and told them Brian's name, and he'd made a reservation so I just sat at the table and waited like ten minutes for him to show up, feeling very much like "what on earth am I doing in this fancy place wearing sneakers and jeans?" (I had on a nice shirt, but...)

So we had this insanely fancy steak dinner there, along with all kinds of stuff like french onion soup, and fancy hashbrowns, and some kind of spicy corn, and whatever, along with cherries jubilee for dessert, which was put on fire as entertainment by our table. Everything was really good, but I had this ongoing feeling of just myself being too low-class to be there, which is weird, because I've certainly gone to my share of fancy restaurants in my life, but this one was kind of a step above. It's hard to explain. It was a neat experience and at the same time very odd.

Especially at one point where I'd just been talking about my dentist visit for like 5 minutes and the waiter comes by and is like "so how are you doing today?" and Brian's like "great!" and I'm just like "..." We laughed, but it was weird.

Anyway, it was good to catch up with Brian since the last time I saw him was in Tokyo last year, and it was really nice of him to give me a ride home afterwards, too.

I got to sleep at a decent hour but again woke up with shoulder pain, which is really unhappy.

Next, I'm going over to the dentist to have a cavity filled, which is kind of even more unhappy. Bleh.

Sheesh

I had my cavity filled at 11am and the novocaine or whatever anaesthetic they used is finally wearing off. Now. At 2:30pm. I'm starving, all I ate today was applesauce because I was afraid of chewing when I can't feel my jaw. Gonna go to Chipotle I think :)

The dentist visit was at least quick today... the dentist showed me the x-rays and other results and basically said "here's some prescription flouride, please put it on your teeth once a day". I don't know what his deal is, but his right hand actually has no fingers -- he has a thumb and then just a big lump. Doesn't seem to stop him from doing dental work but it was kind of odd to notice, I didn't see it yesterday. When they gave me the needle in my gum to numb my mouth, apparently I was so tense that the lady couldn't actually get the needle back out easily, whoops. (I haaaaate needles.) But the filling itself was fairly quick and aside from hurting my neck a little keeping my mouth open, it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be.

Spent the last hour or two looking for a few things in Carl's closet where I'm storing my crap -- notably the boxes from my D50 so I can send it to Katherine and Devin, but apparently despite that I thought I saved them, they must have gotten thrown out in the process of packing/moving. The GOOD news is that I found my baseball books box and so I have like four books to bring back to Japan and lend to Pau. I also found my photo albums box, and boy do I wish I could just autoscan everything... I think I found the photos Aiton asked me about, but I'm not sure whether I can get my computer to talk to my old scanner or not. We'll see.

Anyway, I can feel my mouth again, so I think it's time to go eat and try to run some errands. OMG only one day till Puzzle Hunt!
