I'm posting from Succotash, which is what I named the mini-HP my dad bought right before he died (he never actually opened/used it, and my brother claimed the 80GB iPod so I claimed this, especially since it's perfect to use in Japan). I named it Succotash because my dad really liked lima beans and he always asked me to get him succotash, only it's really hard to find unless you go to a real supermarket and go to the frozen vegetables section, which is what I eventually resorted to.

See, on Jan 6th I was walking back from South Street and I called him from Superfresh like "Do you want anything?" and he said "Succotash, and potato latkes."

It bugs me though, because the can of lima beans and the frozen bag of succotash are both still here... if it was so urgent for me to buy them for him, why didn't he eat them before he died? Sigh.

I figure that it's a good name that will remind me of him every day, pretty much.

Still not sure why he bought it though. My theory is that he wanted a lighter and cuter laptop to bring with him to the hospital, maybe.
Three weeks ago I decided Santonio Holmes was badass because he totally took out a cameraman while running into the endzone to score a touchdown.

Two weeks ago I saw him run the same play, without the cameraman, but just decided he was cool because whatever. Besides, the only line of Here We Go Steelers that I could remember was "Roethlisberger's ready to throw / to Ward, Washington, or Santonio".

Last week I was talking to a friend about how Santonio Holmes is from Ohio State, which means he's supposedly Full of Awesome.

Anyway, so today I got back to Seattle and Zach and I went over to Drew and Jason's place to watch the Super Bowl. We thought there'd be a lot of people and had a ton of food, but in reality it was just the four of us, sometimes with Jason's mom too.

You either know what happened or you don't, but basically, the Steelers were totally up for a long time, then managed to get behind, then managed to go ahead again on a last-minute TOTALLY AWESOME PLAY where Santonio Holmes managed to catch the most ridiculous touchdown pass ever.

And what was funny in our watching is... around the start of the 4th quarter they had a thing on TV for "vote for the MVP online", and the four choices for the Steelers were Roethlisberger, Ward, Parker, and Harrison. Harrison makes sense because he had made this INSANE play at the end of the 2nd quarter, getting an interception at the Cardinals' goal line and running it back 100 yards for a touchdown. This was even MORE nuts due to him being this huge defense guy, he was totally kind of stomping and running like an ogre or something.

But, I wasn't happy with those four choices, so I yelled "I'M VOTING FOR SANTONIO HOLMES!!"

Keep in mind that he was just playing well and had made some nice catches so far in the game, but hadn't been a superstar or anything. It wasn't even a sure thing that the Steelers would win, but I was totally like "Santonio is going to save us!"

Then he made The Catch.

I just thought it was bizarre that I totally called it.

The other thing is that, as I've mentioned, "if Deanna knows a players' name, that means they'll do cool things," and unfortunately I kept wondering who that #11 on the Cardinals was with the long hair, and as soon as I finally cemented in my head that his name was Fitzgerald, he totally started kicking ass too. Grr. Goal in future: learn ABSOLUTELY NO NAMES on the opposing team.

Oddly, I think I have actually become a Steelers fan of sorts in the last 3-4 years. I would never call myself a football fan in the first place, really, but the fact is I actually can name more Steelers than all other teams put together, and I like my Terrible Towel, and I guess they just kind of symbolize Pittsburgh to me, especially since the Pirates are so bad these days. And since I never know who any of the Eagles are except the QB and RB, I don't really feel like I'm really qualified to be an Eagles fan.

Bruce Springsteen also got some bonus points for taking out a cameraman, although he did it in a rather unorthodox manner...

I'll write a real entry about the last few days in a bit. For now I just think it was really neat to be around for another Steelers superbowl victory, and to see Santonio "Run, Little Dude, Run!" Holmes get the MVP. It was so cute to see Jerome Bettis at the broadcast table, too. :)
