Today was my first day since moving to Japan that I didn't get on a train, I think.

I went to the post office early on to confirm that I can take money out of my savings account from the US, and sure enough, I can. So I took out enough to cover what I thought I'd owe the hospital, and I also went and paid my electric bill, which I kept putting off. I stopped by the store to get some food and by the drugstore to get some Tylenol and some big knee-sized bandaids and such. I guess if nothing else, this experience has taught me how to say "I got hit by a truck" in Japanese.

Sam, my baseball friend who has been a lifesaver in several of my Japan adventures so far, came by a little bit before 2 -- right as I was on the phone with one of the insurance people. Because Sam has a family, he also has a minivan, and was nice enough to help me out with this all. He drove me over to the hospital, which is several miles away from here, and he helped me explain stuff to the hospital people and request the paperwork we'll need for the police and for going to another hospital closer by. Only problem is that this hospital only sees outpatients between 8:30am-11am or something like that, so we couldn't actually see a doctor and get a letter; on the other hand, we found out that the insurance people had contacted the hospital and so I didn't actually have to pay for the ER visit. Whew.

Afterwards Sam also helped me talk to both the insurance people from the truck driver's company and another insurance agency that called me too (and in addition, he'd also talked to the police for me to find out what I had to do for filing a report -- sounds like they'll contact me to come in sometime when the police station has an interpreter, most likely). And hopefully he's going to take me back to the hospital on Wednesday morning... I could probably try to get there on my own with the bus if I had to, it turns out there is a bus there from Warabi station, but that's sort of a major pain to walk down there and then get on a bus for an hour or whatever it'd take. Plus, it's not like I can remember all of the right words for things like "official health document to show the police for the accident case" and whatnot.

I was supposed to do laundry sometime this weekend. Since it was raining today and because I didn't want to deal with my laundry machine on the balcony (which would involve a LOT of running in and out of the apartment and stepping up and down and reaching for hangers and all), I decided to go down to the coin laundry two blocks away, and it was altogether a pleasant experience; it cost about 900 yen total to wash and dry everything, and it only took about 1.5 hours total, as opposed to the 6-7 hours I spent on laundry last weekend.

Then I sat here and watched the Fighters-Marines game over the internet; the Yahoo game broadcast videofeed is actually pretty good. The Fighters clobbered the Marines and I was sort of sad I wasn't there at the stadium to watch it, but it really was probably a good move to just stay in and relax, really.

The box of sweets that was left by the insurance people after the accident is a set of fruit gelatin thingies, not cakes or cookies as I expected. So I don't entirely feel guilty eating them, since there's a whole bunch of fruit preserves in it, even if it is a lot of sugar as well. I really don't eat enough fruit here because it's so damn expensive, so it's probably good for me.

I'm a bit nervous about going back to work tomorrow. We'll see what happens. I'm hoping my students will understand that I can't stand up and sit down a whole lot to write on the whiteboards and whatnot. At least I have a pretty good excuse to not wear a skirt this week -- I think it'd probably freak people out to look at the gigantic bruises up my legs, and I REALLY can't walk in high heels, that's for sure.
