The last 24 hours
Aug. 30th, 2007 10:46 pmRealizing I can ride my bike to Kawaguchi station from home in about 12 minutes: awesome
Realizing I could find the Curry House and have some pretty tasty curry: awesome
Realizing that it was RAINING when I got out of eating tasty curry: not awesome
Realizing I had to ride about 2.5 miles home in said rain: also not awesome
Stopping at Max Valu to get out of the rain: sort of awesome
Looking for moyashi soba and utterly failing: not particularly awesome
Coming home to an apartment that wasn't ninety billion degrees for once: awesome
Yeah, so last night was sort of funny. I did infact ride my bike to two stations away just to get katsu curry at Curry House, and it is infact open until 1am, both of which are good things. But it did rain and that did sort of suck. Oh well.
I overslept this morning, sort of... I didn't get up until 11am. I had a headache, and I don't have any medicine for it. Either way, thanks to having a bike and all that good stuff, I still made it to work by 12:40pm, even with a stop at the bakery for lunchfood. I had to do a virtual chat meeting on webcam/headset about GIEA, which is our company for homestays and study abroad stuff. The gist was "Make your students go travel abroad with GEOS! It's good for the company, it's good for the students to learn more English, and it's good for you!" which really means "We like money, though we also like happy students."
None of my people in my 3pm or 4pm classes showed up, which was a little bit weird, though. At 5pm I stepped out to pick up dinner and also to go to Daiso and buy a growth chart for tomorrow's kids' lesson, which is on height. Maybe I will intimidate students by putting my own height up on it as well :)
My evening classes were okay. 7pm was a little rough since 1) I had 5 students with no warning, when I normally have 4 and 2) the grammar focus is something I think even native speakers have problems with, and this was a Sprint 6y class! The others went well, though, my Mill A and my Sprint 6x.
For my Mill A class, actually, we were talking about describing locations of things (ie, "under the book", "next to the door", "on the wall", etc), so I organized a scavenger hunt around the GEOS lobby -- I wrote down several items on cards, and gave one student an item card, like, say, "scissors", and they had to come back and say "It's on the table, between the memo pad and the phone" and the other student had to go figure out what it was. The funny part is, some of my Sprint 6 students were still hanging out with Sachi at the time in the lobby, so they were also trying to be "helpful" like "Oh, it's next to the manager" or "It's to the right of Eri's classroom". In the end I think it was pretty fun though.
Anyway, it's late and I should go home andride my bike some more sleep.
